India post releases stamp cover on Sindhu, sakshi and Dipa

The Indian Postal Department released a special stamp cover featuring Olympic Medalists PV. Sindhu, Sakshi Malik and gymnast Dipa Karmakar in Agartala on 21st January 2017. The special cover is titled “Golden girls of India- pride of Nation” one of the images on the cover also features Dipa’s coach Bishweshwar Nandi, who was awarded the Dronacharya Award.


Siddhartha Murarka appointed as ICSI Chairman

TN assembly Unanimously passes Jallikattu Bill

The Tamil Nadu assembly on 23 January, 2017 passed a bill that replaces an Ordinance and realizes Jallikattu, the bull taming sport, in the state. The Bill was earlies was tabled in the assembly for approval. Tamil Nadu Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao on Saturday (23, Jan) approved the Ordinance issued by the State Government revoking ban on Jallikattu. So, the Bill passed Unanimously in TN Assembly.


Goa to be first state to offer online postal ballots

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Syed Nasim Zaidi on 24 January said that the Goa will become the first state that will opt for the electronic transmission of postal ballot in the Assembly elections. The returning officers will transfer the postal ballots to service voters by electronic means. So, the voters can download it, fill it and sent it via-e-mail to returning officer. This would be the first in the region and around the globe.


National Girl Child Day Observed on 24 January

National on 24 January 2016 observed the 9th National Girl Child Day. It is celebrated to spread awareness about the inequalities faced by the girl child in the country. It is observed on 24 January every year. It was initiated by the Govt in 2008. Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has been taking different initiatives to address and reverse the trend of declining sex ratio in the country.


Kohli Becomes Fastest Batsman to Score 1000 Runs as ODI Captain

Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman in the world to score 1000 runs as captain in One-Day Internationals (ODI) on January 22, 2017 in the 3rd one – day against England at the Eden Gardens. The 28 year old batsman took 17 inning to reach the landmark, breaking the earlier record set by South Africa’s AB de villiers which has achieved in 18 innings.


Delhi airport Wins award for CSR

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) on 22 January 2017 announced that it won the prestigious Golden Peacock Award for corporate social Responsibility in the aviation transport sector for the year 2016. The award was presented on 20 January 2017 at a ceremony during the 11th International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility.


Bhilai Steel Plant inaugurates Rs.1200 crore Universal Rail Mill

Steel Minister, Birender Singh inaugurated a new Rs.1200-crore Universal Rail Mill at Steel Authority of India’s (SAIL) Bhilai Steel Plant on 23 January and flagged off the first rake from the new mill with, this SAIL has commenced commercial Production of World’s longest single rail of 130 meters from the new Universal Rail Mill (URM) URM established at a cost about Rs.1200 crore.

Uber to launch food delivery app Uber EATS in India

Uber’s entry into the food delivery segment as food delivery app Uber EATS in India. Uber EATS was launched as a delivery pitol in Los Angeles in Los Angeles in 2014. Since then, it has expanded to 58 cities. The service also exists in Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Taipei. Uber is currently looking to set up a network of restaurants, restaurant partners and delivery Partners in India.
