President Kovind becomes first President of India to visit Siachen in 14 years

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, visited Siachen Base Camp today (May 10, 2018) and addressed the soldiers posted there. He also visited the Kumar Post. President Kovind is the second President of India to visit Siachen. The previous visit was undertaken by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in April 2004. This makes President Kovind the first President to travel to Siachen in 14 years.

YES Bank to launch water-security programme

YES Bank is all set to roll out a capacity building project with farmers in Haryana and Rajasthan under its ‘Livelihood and Water Security’ CSR initiative.

Google Officially Launches Things, Its IoT Platform

In an effort to better secure and control Internet of Things (IoT) devices, Google officially launched Android Things. Google’s version of Android for IoT devices aims to solve a problem that affects most of the current IoT devices on the market, developers routinely fail to update their devices. With Android Things, each connected device that uses the platform will receive three years of OS updates directly from Google and all of these updates will be free.

Ravi Shankar Prasad Launches Website Of Digital India Internship Scheme

Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the website of Digital India Internship Scheme in New Delhi. Under this scheme, 25 interns will be inducted for a period of three months. These interns will be paid a stipend of 10 thousand rupees per month. The internship is an opportunity for a student to secure first hand and practical work experience under the guidance of qualified and experienced Supervisor and Mentor.

Madhya Pradesh launches Indias first Integrated Control and Command Centre for its smart cities

Bhopal Smart city Development Corporation Limited (BSCDCL) launched India’s first cloud-based common Integrated Data Centre, Disaster Recovery Center and integrated control and command center. It is powered by Hewlett Packard (HP) Enterprise’s universal Internet of Things. ICCC will enable Madhya Pradesh State Administration to monitor and administer multiple cities civic utilities and citizen services across seven smart cities include Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Indore, Ujjain, Satna, and Sagar. It will also enable statewide monitoring of these cities from central command view and result in significant cost savings as compared to deploying full-fledged data and discovery data along with the control centers in each center in every seven cities.

Himachal Pradesh University to be ‘disabled friendly’

Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) will soon become the first ‘disabled friendly’ varsity in the northern region.The university was spending Rs 40 lakh on various facilities for the disabled students.This will include a separate section of library for the disabled with 13 computers, equipped with talking software and fully accessible web portal. The university community is also sensitized on the issues pertaining to disability.

India fastest growing economy at 7.4 per cent in 2018: IMF

The International Monetary Fund, IMF reaffirmed that India will be the fastest-growing major economy in 2018,
with a growth rate of 7.4 per cent that rises to 7.8 per cent in 2019 with medium-term prospects remaining
positive.The IMF’s Asia and Pacific Regional Economic Outlook report stated that India was recovering from the effects of demonetisation and the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax.

Government mulls 100% FDI in insurance intermediaries

The government is considering allowing 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in insurance intermediaries
with a view to give a boost to the sector and attracting more funds. Intermediary services include insurance broking, third party administrators, surveyors and loss assessors.The FDI policy, at present, allows 49 per cent foreign investment in the insurance sector, which includes insurance intermediaries.

Uber reveals its first electric flying car prototype

Uber has unveiled its first electric ‘flying car’ concept aircraft featuring rotors which can reposition to help it fly
after a vertical takeoff. The aircraft can accommodate four passengers and travel 2,000 feet above the traffic at 241-321 kmph. The flying taxis will initially be flown by pilots, however, the company plans to make them autonomous in the future.
