For the better management of  fly ash waste from thermal power plants across country, Government has reduced the GST rates on fly ash and its products to 5%. Further, to facilitate 100% ash utilization by all coal based thermal power plants, a web portal for monitoring of fly ash generation and utilization data of Thermal Power Plants and a mobile based application titled “ASHTRACK” has been launched that will help to establish a link between fly ash users and power plants executives for obtaining fly ash for its use in various areas.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs implements various schemes for pursuing higher research and institutions of National importance for minority students, though there is no specific skill scheme for minority youth to facilitate their entry into the areas of higher research and institutions of national importance.

The Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme is awarded for pursuing professional and technical courses, at under-graduate and post-graduate levels, in institutions recognized by the appropriate authority. Under the scheme, 30% of these scholarships are earmarked for girl students. To be eligible, students should not have annual family income more than Rs.2.50 lakh and he/she should have secured minimum 50% marks in previous class.  Similarly, the objective of the Maulana Azad National Fellowship is to provide integrated five year fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students from minority communities to pursue higher studies such as M.Phil and Ph.D. To be eligible, the annual income of the family from all sources should not exceed Rs.2.50 lakh.

 

In a first, MCX to launch futures trading in brass

MCX, the country’s largest commodity exchange, will launch futures trading in brass for first time in the world at an event on March 21, and will go live on trading from March 26.

Brass will be the first non-ferrous contract with compulsory delivery options – the IS-319 grade brass ingots and billets can be delivered at Jamnagar in Gujarat.

The S128 wind turbine generator (WTG) is being offered in 2.6 MW to 2.8 MW variants and offers hub heights up to 140 metres.

India will eliminate TB by 2025: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said India will fully eliminate tuberculosis by 2025, a good five years ahead of the global deadline of 2030, and has already started working towards achieving this goal.

India is also implementing the National Strategic Plan for TB elimination that is backed by Rs. 12,000 crore in funding for the next three years to ensure every TB patient in the country has access to quality diagnosis, treatment and support, Modi said.

 

GDP to grow 6.8-6.9% in 2018, says Deloitte

Sounding an optimistic note for the economy after disruptions from note-ban and the Goods and Services Tax, a Deloitte report on Tuesday said India will resume its status as one of the fastest growing economies in 2018.

The report has pegged India’s growth at 6.8-6.9 per cent in 2018, adding that it will be driven by private consumption by both rural and urban areas.

Telangana, Kay Ventures tie up for apparel hub

The Telangana government is setting up a Rs. 100-crore Apparel Super Hub in Sircilla. It signed a memorandum of understanding with Kay Ventures to roll out the project.

To be set up on 20 acres, the hub will be completed in three phases. The first phase will be taken up with an investment of Rs. 30 crore in a year. While the State government will infuse 90 per cent of the phase-1 funds, Kay Ventures and its associates will take care of the balance amount.

 

Corp Bank EGM nod for capital infusion

The extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of shareholders of Corporation Bank has approved a special resolution to issue equity shares on preferential basis to the Centre. This will help the government infuse up to Rs. 2,187 crore into the bank. The bank informed the stock exchanges that the EGM of shareholders on Tuesday approved a special resolution to issue 51,84,92,176 equity shares at an issue price of Rs. 42.18 per share to the government on preferential basis.

World Bank projects India’s FY19 GDP growth at 7.3%

The World Bank today projected India’s GDP growth at 7.3 per cent for the next financial year and it was expected to accelerate further to 7.5 per cent in 2019-20. The World Bank’s biannual publication, India Development Update: India’s Growth Story, expects the economy to clock a growth rate of 6.7 per cent in the current fiscal ending March 31.

Rs 12,476 cr given to Andhra as special assistance: Govt

The government today informed Parliament that a total of Rs 12,476.76 crore has been released as special assistance to Andhra Pradesh, which includes Rs 2,500 crore for establishment of the new capital city of the state.

Union minister of state for home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said the central and the Andhra Pradesh governments have been working together to implement the provisions made in Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 (APR Act, 2014) which include establishment of several institutions and launch of certain projects, as mentioned in Schedule XIII of the Act.
