7th meeting of Upper Yamuna Review Committee held in New Delhi today.

In the seventh meeting of the Upper Yamuna Review Committee held in New Delhi today,  member states agreed to convey their concurrence to the draft inter-state agreement for  construction of Lakhwar, Renuka and Kishau dams on river Yamuna and its tributaries. The implementation of these projects will augment the water availability in the river and benefit the basin states including Rajasthan and Haryana.

To handhold and apprise the prospective investor community about the salient features of Hydrocarbon Exploration & Licensing Policy(HELP) framework and details about the ebidding process, Government successfully concluded a facilitation workshop in Ahmedabad yesterday after a similar event in Mumbai a few days back.

The workshop conducted by Director General, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) along with other senior Government officials witnessed over 150 participants from E&P companies, investors, entrepreneurs, academicians etc.

Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution swept an area outside Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi today. Shri Paswan also administered the Swachhta pledge to officials of the Department of Food & Public Distribution on the first day of the Department’s Swachhta Pakhwada scheduled from 16th to 28th February 2018.

The Pakhwada is being organized to create awareness amongst officials as well as the general public on the importance of the need for sustained maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene.

Kolkata port, Hooghly Oil & Gas tie up for liquid cargo terminal at Haldia

The Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) on Thursday signed a concession agreement with Hooghly Oil & Gas Terminal Pvt Ltd for setting up a liquid cargo handling terminal at Shalukhali in Haldia.

Hooghly Oil & Gas Terminal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of IMC Ltd, will set up a jetty on a PPP basis at an investment of 172.51 crore.

MoU Signed between Botanical Survey of India and Natural History Museum, UK 

Botanical Survey of India (BSI) and Natural History Museum (NHM), UK signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of genetic/taxonomic studies, research and training, conservation in India, including species and habitat conservation assessments, etc here today.

The MoU was signed by Director, BSI Dr Paramjit Singh and Head of the Algae, Fungi and Plants Division, NHM, Dr Sandra Knapp, in the presence of Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr Harsh Vardhan.

 

57th Meeting of Central Geological Programming Board

The 57th Meeting of the Central Geological Programming Board (CGPB) was inaugurated here today by Shri Arun Kumar, Secretary, Mines, where  apart from discussion on achievements of GSI(Geological Survey of India) during the current year, the proposed Annual Programme for ensuing 2018-19 was presented before all Board members. An exhibition was also opened displaying the entire gamut of ongoing activities of Geological Survey of India (GSI). During the occasion, four GSI publications were released. Representatives of State Departments, Central Ministries/ organizations, PSUs, academic institutes and private entrepreneurs attended the 57th CGPB meeting.

 

SAP joins hands with Karnataka to train 15,000 youth in emerging tech

SAP will collaborate with the Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology (ITBT and S&T), Karnataka government, to skill 15,000 people in the next three years.

The initiative is aimed at training this workforce from engineering colleges in emerging tech areas such as blockchain, IoT and Artificial Intelligence.

This collaboration is to support ’Yuva Yuga’, an industry-led IT skill development programme initiated by the Department of ITBT.

The Department will promote skill development across ten sectors, among youth across multiple industries, free of cost.

 

NRDC, IIIT-H sign MoU -Calls for cooperation in development of technologies

Ecologist Dhrubajyoti Ghosh passes away

Dhrubajyoti Ghosh, the ecologist who introduced 100 kilometre swathe of Kolkata wetland to the rest of the world, passed away here on Friday.

Ghosh received prestigious Luc Hoffman Award, instituted to honour conservationist by International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources [IUCN], in 2016 for his pioneering and lifelong work to protect East Kolkata Wetland [EKW], world’s largest organic sewage management system. Owing to his work, EKW was declared as the Ramsar Site or Wetland of International Importance.

Automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said on Friday that it would be investing ₹176 crore in car-rental startup Zoomcar. Mahindra & Mahindra which is part of $19 billion Mahindra Group, said it would be making the investment in Zoomcar India Private Limited and its U.S. incorporated holding parent company Zoomcar Inc. This deal is part of Mahindra’s thrust on the ‘shared mobility business.’
