India Signs Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in Nursing with Singapore

India has signed the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in Nursing with Singapore. This is the first MRA being signed by India with any of our FTA partners.

In a major gain for India, Singapore agreed to expand coverage of Indian nursing institutions by recognising seven nursing institutions in the MRA.  This has paved way for our healthcare service providers to institutionally access markets abroad.  It will further open up doors for India to enter into similar mutual recognition arrangements with other countries.

Executive Committee constituted under Chairpersonship of Prime Minister of India to celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

The Government of India has decided to commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. A National Committee (NC) under the Chairmanship of the  President of India has been constituted for this purpose and the first meeting of the National Committee was held on 2nd May 2018 at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi for commemoration of the event on 2nd October 2019.  As decided in the meeting, an Executive Committee (EC) under the Chairpersonship of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has been constituted comprising of Senior Ministers in the Cabinet, Leader of opposition (Rajya Sabha), Renowned Gandhians, Social Activists and noted public figures.

Government introduces new scheme ‘SevaBhojYojna’

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India has introduced a new scheme namely ‘SevaBhojYojna’ with a total outlay of Rs. 325.00 Crores for Financial Years 2018-19 and 2019-20.

The scheme envisages to reimburse the Central Government share of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Integrated Goods and Service Tax (IGST) on purchase of raw items such as ghee, edible oil, atta/maida/rava/flour , rice pulses, sugar, burra/jiggery etc which go into preparation of food/Prasad/langar/bhandara offered free of cost by religious institutions. The objective of the scheme is to lessen the financial burden of such Charitable Religious Institutions who provide Food/Prasad/Langar (Community Kitchen)/Bhandara free of cost without any discrimination to Public/Devotees

Foundation laid for India’s First Advanced Forensic Lab in Chandigarh dedicated to women related cases

Hon’ble Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi laid foundation of Sakhi Suraksha Advanced DNA Forensic Laboratory in the campus of Central Forensic Science Lab, Chandigarh today. Speaking at the event, the Minister said that forensic analysis plays critical role in criminal investigation and the Advanced Lab will contribute to address the gap in forensic DNA analysis of pending sexual assault cases in the country. The Minister added that the lab is being set up as a model forensic lab and would be replicated in other parts of the country

IMD launches new system to improve weather forecasts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) launched a new Ensemble Prediction Systems (EPS) to provide probabilistic weather forecasts up to the next 10 days. According to IMD, these new systems shall improve upon deterministic forecasts that are prone to high margins of error. The EPS involves generation of multiple forecasts using slightly varying initial conditions. The 450-crore acquisition of eight petaflops high-power computing systems will help in generating newer forecasts which have a higher resolution of 12km instead of the 23km resolution that has been in use till now. The forecast related to the intensity of the weather will also be more accurate and color coded. The new model has been developed jointly by Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology and National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting.

Ordinance To Set Up Countrys 1st National Sports University Gets Presidents Assent

President Ram Nath Kovind gave his assent to an ordinance to set up the country’s first national sports university in Manipur. The Union Cabinet had approved an ordinance in May 2018 in this regard. National Sports University Ordinance, 2018 will be on the lines of the National Sports University Bill, 2017 which was introduced in Lok Sabha in 2017. The University will a first of its kind, to promote sports education in the areas of sports sciences, sports technology, sports management and sports coaching besides functioning as the national training center for select sports disciplines by adopting the best international practices.

Giuseppe Conte Sworn In As Italian PM To New Populist Government

Giuseppe Conte was sworn in as prime minister of Italy’s new populist government. Conte, an academic and political novice, will head a government of ministers from the anti-establishment Five Star Movement (M5S) and the far-right League Party. The 53-year-old was sworn in alongside his cabinet, which will see M5S leader Luigi Di Maio and League chief Matteo Salvini in key ministerial posts.

Union Minister Rajnath Singh deploys Gatekeeper for foreign funding; launches web tool to keep an eye on its flow

In order to keep a track of the flow and utilization of foreign contributions received by various organizations registered or permitted, an Online Analytical Tool has been launched. This web-based tool enables decision-makers in various Departments of Government to scrutinize source of foreign funds and their actual use in India. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today launched this tool to facilitate closer monitoring the flow of foreign contributions received by various organizations registered or permitted under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010. It gives them the capacity to take data-driven and evidence-based decisions regarding the compliance of the provisions of the FCRA, 2010. It has analytical features to conduct big data mining and data exploration. Its dashboard will be integrated with the bank accounts of the FCRA-registered entities through the Public Financial Management System for the operation of transactional data on a real-time basis.

Kendrick Lamar Receives Pulitzer Prize In Music

Kendrick Lamar received the Pulitzer Prize in music for his album “Damn.” Lamar is the first rapper in history to be given the award. Previous recipients included Bob Dylan, Hank Williams and Duke Ellington. Lamar had received this award at Columbia University.

Kailash Satyarthi and ISRO Chief Gets ‘Santokbaa Humanitarian’ Award

President Ram Nath Kovind presented the ‘Santokbaa Humanitarian Award’ to Child rights activist and Noble Laureate Kailash Satyarthi and space scientist A S Kiran Kumar, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Surat, Gujarat. The award was instituted by Shree Ramkrishna Knowledge Foundation (SRKKF) and led by diamond baron Govind Dholakia. The award includes a trophy and a prize money of Rs 1 crore each to the awardees.

Tata Motors signed MoU With Maharashtra To Promote E-Mobility

Tata Motors (India’s largest automobile company by revenues) signed a MoU with the State Government of Maharashtra for deployment of 1000 Electric Vehicles (EV) across its range of passenger and commercial vehicles in the State. The company also partnered Tata group company, Tata Power Ltd to set up of EV Charging Stations in the State. The MoU boosts the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle Policy 2018 in accelerating the adoption of EVs in Maharashtra.

Andhra Pradesh Got Its Own Symbols

Neem and black buck declared as the state tree and animal respectively of Andhra Pradesh. The rose-ringed parakeet will be the state bird while jasmine will be the state flower. The announcement was made by the Principal Secretary of Environment and Forests G Anantha Ramu.
