India to help build nuclear plant in Bangladesh

India, Bangladesh and Russia have signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the construction of the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh.

The MoU was signed in Moscow by the Department of Atomic Energy of India, the Ministry of Science and Technology of Bangladesh and Rosatom.

 

Tamil Nadu launches 24 hour helpline for students

Calming the students over the stressful situation created because of the ongoing exam fever, the State of Tamil Nadu has launched a 24 hour helpline for the first time in the country. This helpline would provide information on education and offer guidance to the students. Chief Minister K Palaniswami formally launched the toll-free number 14417 through the 24-hour Education Guidance Centre set up at the Secretariat that would offer information relating to school education and offer guidance to students. Palaniswami launched the facility at a function, following the announcement in the Assembly that a toll-free helpline would be set up at Rs 2 crore. Earlier, the Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan had informed that a special student helpline shall be set up. This would serve as a platform where students and parents can get their grievances addressed. And career guidance will also be provided for higher secondary students. This will be of great help for the students in rural areas.

 

Centre approves Rs 2,900 cr to make cities safer for women

The Centre today approved projects worth over Rs 2,900 crore under the Nirbhaya fund for eight major cities of the country in a bid to make them safer for women.

Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad Ahmedabad and Lucknow have been sanctioned a total of Rs 2,919.55 crore after a meeting today of the Empowered Committee, which is headed by the secretary of Women and Child Development (WCD

 

Navjot first woman wrestler to win gold at Asian Championships

Navjot Kaur on Friday scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold at the Senior Asian Wrestling Championships as she clinched the yellow metal in the 65kg freestyle category, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Navjot outclassed Japan’s Miya Imai 9-1 in a one-sided final bout of the women’s 65kg freestyle category to bag the gold. This was also India’s first gold in the ongoing championships.

 

 

Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang to arrive India today for three-day visit

Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang will reach India on Friday to embark on a three-day visit to the country.

President Quang three-day visit begins from March 2 to March 4. The visit is aimed to strengthen their partnership to ward off China’s growing influence.

During his visit, President Quang will meet the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and hold official talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will also have an interaction with prominent Indian businessmen.

ArcelorMittal partners Japan’s NSSMC to acquire Essar Steel

The world’s largest steelmaker ArcelorMittal and Japanese steel major Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation (NSSMC) formed a joint venture to acquire the assets of India’s debt-laden Essar Steel, the Luxembourg- based firm said on Friday. The Lakshmi Niwas Mittalowned conglomerate’s Indian arm, ArcelorMittal India, had on February 12 submitted a resolution plan for Essar Steel outlining the intention to have NSSMC formally join its bid for Essar Steel.
