Shri Shripad Yesso Naik to inaugurate National Health Editors’ Conference on Yoga in New Delhi

The Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge), Shri Shripad Yesso Naik will inaugurate the 3rdNational Health Editors’ Conference on Yoga at Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) in New Delhi on June 05, 2018. The Ministry of AYUSH is organizing this Conference in collaboration with the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY). This Conference on ‘Evidence Based Recent Innovative Research on Yoga – A Review of Yoga Research’ is being organized to mark the beginning of International Day of Yoga, which takes place on 21st June every year.

Central Government sets up Cauvery Water Management Authority to address water sharing dispute

The Centre constituted the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CMA) in compliance with a Supreme Court order to address the dispute over sharing of river water among the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry. On 16th of February, the Supreme Court had directed the government to form the CMA within six weeks. A notification by the Ministry of Water Resources said, it has framed a scheme, constituting the CMA and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee to give effect to the decision of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal as modified by Apex Court order. The authority would comprise a chairman, eight members besides a secretary. The chairman will be appointed by the Central government for a tenure of five years. Out of eight members, two each will be full-time and part-time members, while the rest four will be part-time members from states. The Centre will initially contribute a sum of two crore rupees for the functioning of the authority. AIR correspondent reports that a scheme has been framed by the Centre, constituting the CMA and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee, to give effect to the decision of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal as modified by apex court order. The scheme would deal with the issue of water share of the four states in different circumstances like normal and deficient water years in the Cauvery river basin. A notification by the Ministry of Water Resources the authority would comprise a Chairman and eight members besides a Secretary. The Centre will initially contribute a sum of two crore rupees for the functioning of the authority.

India signed the Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in Nursing with Singapore. This is the first MRA being signed by India with any of our Free Trade Agreement (FTA) partners. US vetoes Arab-backed UN draft resolution to protect Palestinians

The United States vetoed an Arab-backed UN draft resolution calling for measures to protect the Palestinians after more than 100 people were killed in Israeli fire during protests at the border with Gaza. Ten countries including China, France, and Russia voted in favor of the draft put forward by Kuwait on behalf of Arab countries at the Security Council. The Four countries Britain, Ethiopia, the Netherlands and Poland abstained. A draft resolution requires nine votes to be adopted in the 15-member council and no veto from the five permanent members including the US. US Ambassador Nikki Haley told the council that the measure was wildly inaccurate in its characterization of recent events in Gaza by condemning Israel for the violence. She said, there is not a single mention of Hamas in the resolution when it is chiefly responsible for the recent violence in Gaza. Ms. Haley, the text criticizes the excessive and indiscriminate use of force by Israeli forces against Palestinian civilians, when in fact, it is Hamas that fired 70 rockets indiscriminately into Israeli towns this week.

Agni-5 missile Successfully Tested

The long range ballistic missile Agni 5  is successfully flight tested at 0945 hrs today from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island (Wheeler Island). All the Radars, Electro Optical Tracking Stations and Telemetry Stations tracked the vehicle all through the course of the trajectory. All the mission objectives have been achieved. Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala Sitharaman has congratulated all the DRDO Scientists, Staff, Armed Forces and Industries for the success of A5 Mission.

HCL Tech, JDA tie up for JDA Commerce, SofTechnics, PRM solutions

HCL Technologies has partnered with the US-based software and consultancy firm JDA Software Inc for development, product support and go-to-market initiatives of JDA Commerce, SofTechnics, and Pricing and Revenue Management (PRM) solutions.

According to a press release, the collaboration will modernise the solutions’ architecture and shift to a SaaS model.

Nasscom to set up cyber security CoE

The Data Security Council of India (DSCI), an arm of the Nasscom, has signed an agreement with the Telangana government to set up the Centre of Excellence for cyber security. The CoE will accelerate Telangana’s cyber security momentum and make the State a hub for cyber security in the next five years. “The CoE, to be developed on public-private-partnership model will accelerate and strengthen the ecosystem for cyber security. It will work on innovation, entrepreneurship and capacity building,” Jayesh Ranjan, Secretary (Information Technology and Industries), has said after signing the agreement.

US-based NetApp to step up incubating fintech, digi-health start-ups

Data storage and management company NetApp is looking to intensify its start-up accelerator programme, NetApp Excellerator in the coming months.

The US-based $6-billion company, which chose the Indian market to launch its first ever start-up incubation programme, is looking to incubate 6-8 data analytics start-ups in its third cohort. NetApp has already incubated 12 such start-ups in its last two cohorts since 2017.

Infosys bags export awards

IT major Infosys has bagged the ‘Highest in Software Exports’ award from the Telangana government for registering exports to the tune of 10,889 crore from its two facilities in Hyderabad in 2017-18. This is about 8 per cent of the State’s exports of 93, 422 crore for 2017-18. The Bengaluru-based firm also won the ‘Highest in Employment Generation’ award and another for ‘Exemplary work in training’ in partnership with Telangana Academy for Skills and Knowledge. It has 28,000 employees working in the two campuses in Hyderabad, including 20,000 at Pocharam.
