  8. Onslaught (noun) – a large number of people; abundance, plethora.
  9. Shale industry (noun) – an industry of mining and processing of oil shale. shale is a fine-grained sedimentary rock in which natural gas is trapped underground.
  10. Spurt (noun) – a sudden burst, increase of activity.
  11. Feel the pinch (phrase) – suffer hardship, suffer adversity.
  12. Desist from (verb) – stop from, abstain, refrain, hold back.
  13. Rely on (phrasal verb) – depend on; resort to, bank on.
