India won five gold medals in the sixth day of Asian Para Games 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia. ♦ K.Jennitha Anto clinched the gold in women’s individual rapid P1 chess event after beating Manurung Roslinda of Indonesia 1-0 in the final round. ♦ Neeraj Yadav and Amit Balyan clinched gold and silver medals respectively in spear throwing event. ♦ Amit Kumar and Dharambir bagged gold and silver respectively in the men’s club throw F51 event. ♦ Kishan Gangolli, in the men’s individual rapid VI-B2/B3 event, to claim the top spot. ♦ In para-badminton, Parul Parmar won the women’s singles SL3 event.

Air India gets equity infusion of Rs 1,000 crore from NSSF : Union Government
Air India raised Rs 3,000 crore so far which includes Rs 1,000 crore to the airline from the National Small Savings Fund (NSSF) on behalf of the government. Another Rs 500 crore will be raised by the airline through a loan from the unused sovereign guarantee. It is a part of the Rs 4,200 crore debt of AI to oil companies.
IRDA panel headed by S. Mathur to study feasibility of paying claims in installments
Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) formed a panel to examine claims in installments. This panel is headed by Suresh Mathur, ED (Health), IRDAI. This will look into the feasibility of the proposal of general and health insurance companies for payment of claims in installments as against lump sum payments.

Adityanath is all set to prepare Ram temple
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath exhorted his supporters to start preparing for the construction of a temple in Ayodhya with the same zeal with which they celebrated Ram Leela. Mr.Adityanath in his Vijayadashami speech in Gorakhpur said along with the grandeur of the Ram Leelas, people should start preparing to build a grand temple in the same way in which grand Ram Leelas have been organised in the form of the temple. He, however, did not explain or clarify his remark, which was delivered in a winding sentence in Hindi. The CM said without Lord Ram, the path of public welfare would not be complete and hoped that his “grand ideal character” would inspire everyone. Mr.Adityanath, who is also the head priest of the Gorakhnath temple, participated in the customary Vijay Shobha Yatra from the temple.
Scientist developed new skin gel that protects from some pesticides
Indian researchers developed a gel which, when applied on the skin, can inhibit some pesticides from getting absorbed into the body. It thus averts serious adverse effects and even death. Organophosphate-based pesticides, which are commonly used by farmers in India, are toxic to the nervous system and heart and can cause cognitive dysfunction. When esters present in organophosphate-based pesticides enter the body they bind and inhibit acetylcholinesterase or AChE enzyme critical for nerve and muscle function. This causes neurological disorders, suffocation, paralysis, and even death.
Two TN govt. hospital to get seamless laboratories
The two Tamil Nadu Government hospitals, the Institute of Child Health (ICH) and Hospital for Children, Egmore, and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), are to establish seamless laboratories comprising pneumatic tube systems and automated processing of samples. This is to avoid the troubles caused during the manual transportation of clinical samples from wards to laboratories. Earlier this year, the State government had sent teams from the two hospitals on a visit to a few health facilities in Singapore. They studied the seamless laboratories established at the facilities. A prototype of the pneumatic system is getting installed at ICH and will be launched on November 14, on the occasion of its golden jubilee celebrations.
NASA Space Apps challenge 2018 on DSU campus
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Space Apps challenge 2018 Hackathon has been organised at Dayananda Sagar University (DSU), Kudlu Gate campus, on Hosur Road. It is a two-day event. DSU has invited entries from school and college students. Coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, and technologists will address challenges faced on earth and in space. Top 20 teams would be invited to set up their enterprises based on the ideas presented at the competitions at the Bengaluru event; transforming them into commercial solutions at the DSU Start-up Village and the Atal Innovation Centre (AIC) on the DSU campus.
Seven snake eggs were incubated and released into the wild
A clutch of seven tiny snakes was released into the wild after spending nearly 80 days in an incubator at the civic body’s Wildlife Paramedical Centre, Karnataka. While incubating the snakes resembled no more than little worms. A BBMP wildlife rescue volunteer rescued the clutch of seven snake eggs from a sump in Hegde Nagar. The mother, a common Kukri species, was also rescued. While common Kukri is found widespread across the sub-continent, it’s sighting in the city has become rare owing to habitat loss. The mother was rescued and released in a nearby garden, while the eggs were taken to BBMP Forest Cell’s wildlife centre. When snakes lay their eggs, they choose a variety of factors including predators and temperature (25 to 26 degrees Celsius). It is difficult to replicate this process in gardens. Hence the eggs were artificially incubated. After all seven eggs hatched, it was released into gardens of the city.
Pakistans PM Imran to attend Saudi investment conference
Pakistan Foreign Office announced that the Prime Minister Imran Khan is to attend a high-profile investment conference in Saudi Arabia amid a string of cancellations from top global business leaders over the disappearance of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The Foreign Office said Prime Minister Khan will visit Riyadh on October 23 on the special invitation of Saudi King Salman to participate in the three-day ‘Future Investment Initiative’ conference touted as ‘Davos in the desert’.
WDCs 14th Annual general meeting to be held in Mumbai, India
The World Diamond Council (WDC) is to hold its 14th annual general meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on October 22 -23, 2018. It will focus on reform of the Kimberley Process and WDC System of Warranties in support of a commitment to sustainable development by the diamond industry. Kimberley process is established in 2000 to prevent ‘conflict diamonds’ from entering the mainstream rough diamond market. The meeting will be hosted by the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council and the agenda will be to continue to focus on a push for reform.
Adith won AITA championship series tennis tournament
Second seed Adith Amarnath of Karnataka won the boys’ under-14 title in the All India Tennis Association (AITA) championship series tennis tournament in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Adith defeated fourth seed Kandhavel Mahalingam of Tamil Nadu 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the final. The results (finals): Boys: Under-14: Adith Amarnath bt Kandhavel Mahalingam 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
