Two Day Thematic Seminar on ‘Water and Sanitation’ in a run-up to 3rd Annual Meeting of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) begins in Pune , Maharashtra
While India is making significant strides in Water and Sanitation Sector, what is needed is holistic and integrated approach and public participation in sustainability of outcomes opined various experts at the two-day thematic seminar on Water and Sanitation which began in Pune, Maharashtra today. This was hosted by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India in collaboration with Research and Information System (RIS) for Developing Countries as Knowledge Partner along with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA). Given Pune’s importance of successful intervention in sanitation, this city has been selected for hosting the two-day deliberations. Thethematic Conference on Water and Sanitation is one of the eight events being organized by the Ministry of Finance and 7th in the series in a lead-up to the AIIB’s 3rd Annual Meeting which ,in turn, is scheduled to be held in June 2018 in Mumbai.
Government of India and World Bank signs $500 Million Additional Financing for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana Rural Roads Project
The Government of India and the World Bank today signed a $500 million loan agreement to provide additional financing for the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Rural Roads Project, implemented by Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India, which will build 7,000 km of climate resilient roads, out of which 3,500 km will be constructed using green technologies.

The Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar has promised that the centre would provide financial assistance worth Rs 6 Lakh for cochlear implant of all children with hearing impairment hailing from the economically weak sections of the Sikkimese society. He made the announcement after a group of hearing impaired and specially-abled school children gave a heart-warming performance in the opening ceremony of the ‘Samajik Adhikarita Shivir’ organised at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok today. He took a group photograph with the children and presented them with tokens of appreciation.
Tourism Minister launches the guidelines by government on Adventure Tourism
The Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Shri. K. J. Alphons launched the Guidelines by the Government of India on Adventure Tourism in New Delhi today. These guidelines on Safety and Quality Norms for Adventure Tourism in India have been formulated along with the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) in an effort to make adventure sports safer.
New Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme, 2018 launched by the Income Tax Department
It was found in many cases that black money was invested in properties in the names of others, even though benefits were enjoyed by the investor concealing his beneficial ownership in his tax returns. The Government had earlier amended Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988, by Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016 to make the law stronger. With the objective of obtaining people’s participation in the Income Tax Department’s efforts to unearth black money and to reduce tax evasion, a new reward scheme titled “Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme, 2018”, has been issued by the Income Tax Department. This reward scheme is aimed at encouraging people to give information about benami transactions and properties as well as income earned on such properties by such hidden investors and beneficial owners.
Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh launches Online Analytical Tool to monitor foreign contributions under FCRA
Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh here today launched an Online Analytical Tool to facilitate closer monitoring of the flow and utilisation of foreign contributions received by various organisations registered or permitted under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010. This web-based tool enables decision-makers in various Departments of Government to scrutinise source of foreign funds and their actual use in India. It gives them capacity to take data-driven and evidence-based decisions regarding the compliance of the provisions of the FCRA, 2010. It has analytical features to conduct big data mining and data exploration. Its dashboard will be integrated with the bank accounts of the FCRA-registered entities through the Public Financial Management System for updation of transactional data on a real-time basis.
Deccan Queen completes 88 years of service
The introduction of ‘’Deccan Queen’’ between the two premier cities of Maharashtra on 1st June 1930 was a major landmark in the history of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway, the forerunner of the Indian Railways. This was the first deluxe train introduced on the railway to serve two important cities of the region and was aptly named after Pune, which is also known as ‘’Queen of Deccan’’ (‘’Dakkhan ki Rani’’).

Modi launches three Indian payment apps in Singapore
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched three Indian mobile payment apps in Singapore at a business event aimed at internationalisation of the country’s digital payment platform. At the ‘Business, Innovation and Community Event’ here where digital platform was the main feature, Modi launched India’s BHIM, RuPay and SBI app.
India’s RuPay digital payments system was linked up with Singapore’s 33-year old Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS). RuPay users will be able to make payments at all of NETS acceptance points across Singapore. Holders of Singapore NETS will be able to make online purchase on any National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) e-commerce merchant website in India, using 2.8 million RuPay point of sale terminals in India.
BSNL ties up to create mobile advertising ecosystem
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Call2Action Communication India on Thursday partnered to create a mobile advertising ecosystem through promotions, designed specifically for mobile network operators. Called Infomo, the platform will be available through the ‘MyBSNL’ app and the company will provide advertising and promotion content to users during routine everyday interactions such as calls, SMS, alerts, notifications, beacons and other location-based interactions.
Indian Oil Most Profitable PSU for second Straight Year
Indian Oil Corporation emerged as India’s most profitable state-owned company for the second consecutive year. Indian Oil posted a record profit of Rs21,346 crore in 2017-18, followed by ONGC, whose profit stood at Rs19,945 crore. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries is the most profitable company for the third straight year, posting highest ever profit of Rs36,075 crore.

ndian star cricketer Yuvraj Singh awarded the ‘most inspiring icon of the year for Social Welfare’ award by the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DIFF) for his exemplary contribution in the field of social welfare. Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer (mediastinal seminoma) shortly after the World Cup. After successfully completing his chemotherapy cycle in the United States, Yuvraj returned to India in 2012 and made his international comeback in a Twenty20 match against New Zealand.
State Bank of India Hikes Interest Rate On Fixed Deposits
India’s biggest lender State Bank of India (SBI) revised its interest higher on retail fixed deposits or FDs below Rs. 1 crore. SBI has revision interest rates by up to 25 basis points in select maturities. The interest rate on SBI FDs with a maturity of one year to less than two years has been increased to 6.65% for the public, from 6.4% earlier. Senior citizens will get an interest rate of 7.15% as compared to 6.9% earlier. SBI fixed deposits with a maturity of two years to less than three years will fetch an interest rate of 6.65%, higher than 6.6% earlier. Senior citizens will get 7.15% as compared to 7.10%. The interest rates across other maturities have been kept unchanged.
Infosys concludes acquisition of US based Wongdoody at $75 million
Infosys completed the acquisition of WongDoody Holding Company, a US-based digital creative and consumer insights agency, for a total consideration of up to $75 million. Founded in 1993, WongDoody has clients across industries like telecommunications, consumer electronics, healthcare and consumer packaged goods.
