New Electronic Voting Machines manufacturing facility inaugurated
Election Commissioner Sunil Arora inaugurated a new manufacturing facility for EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) production at Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL),in Bangalore. Braille EPI Cards (Electors Photo Identity Card) were distributed for the first time in Karnataka to four visually impaired voters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa
From July 23 – 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rwanda, Uganda and then South Africa where he will attend the 10th edition of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. NASA launches toolkit to promote commercial use of satellite data
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched the ‘Remote Sensing Toolkit’ to promote commercial use of satellite data. This toolkit was launched with an aim to make it easier for users to find, analyse and utilise the relevant satellite data for their research, business projects or conservation efforts. It provides a simple system that quickly identifies relevant sources based on user input. It helps to find the satellite data easier and to spark innovation among the entrepreneurial community and lead to further commercialisation of NASA technology.
Fourth BIMSTEC Summit to be held in Kathmandu
The announcement of the 4th Bay of Bengal Initiatives for Multi-Sectoral, Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) to be held in Kathmandu made by Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali. The main focus of the summit will be to increase connectivity between the BIMSTEC nations including roads, airways and transmission lines. The BIMSTEC is a regional economic bloc comprising seven member states lying in the littoral and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal constituting a contiguous regional unity.

South Korean Ex President Park Geun hye got another 8 yrs in jail
For abusing state funds and elections, South Korea court sentences jailed ex-President Park Geun-hye to additional 8 years. She is already serving 24 years in prison on separate corruption charges following her removal in 2017. India and Japan hold 4th Round Of Maritime Affairs Dialogue
India and Japan held the fourth round of Maritime Affairs Dialogue in New Delhi. During the dialogue, key issues related to the Indo-Pacific region and maritime security were discussed. The Indian delegation at the dialogue was led by Pankaj Sharma, Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs) in the External Affairs Ministry and the Japanese side was led by Ambassador Kansuke Nagaoka, Policy Planning and International Security Policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Myanmar Joins International Solar Alliance
Myanmar joined the India-initiated International Solar Alliance (ISA) and it became the 68th signatory to the Framework Agreement of the ISA that aims for optimum utilisation of solar energy. Myanmar Minister for International Cooperation Kyaw Tin handed over the ISA Framework Agreement to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during a bilateral meeting on Delhi Dialogue 2018. Lok Sabha passed the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018
The Lok Sabha passed the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018. It will now replace the Ordinance by the same name promulgated by the President in April 2018. The Bill empowers special courts to direct the Central government to confiscate all the assets belonging to a fugitive economic offender, including those assets that are proceeds of the crime and that do not belong to the offender. The legislation gains importance against the background of high-profile cases where individuals such as Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi escaped the country. Ordinance Ordinances are laws that are promulgated by the President of India on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet. They can only be issued when Parliament is not in session. They enable the Indian government to take immediate legislative action. Ordinances cease to operate either if Parliament does not approve of them within six weeks of reassembly.
Volkswagen has planned to set up a design centre in Pune
German auto major Volkswagen (VW) Group has planned to set up a design centre in Chakan near Pune. It is aimed to expand the production capacity of the company. VW would be investing ₹8,000 crore, in phases, in the design centre, development of new models and other activities. The group is targeting to achieve a 5% market share in India by 2025, from the current 1.8%, across brands. Currently, Volkswagen has 121 dealers across 104 cities in India and it is planning to increase the number of touch points.
Union Health Minister addressed at 8th BRICS Health Ministers Meeting
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J P Nadda addressed at the ‘8th BRICS Health Ministers’ Meeting, held at Durban, South Africa, and stated that India will strongly support for Ending Tuberculosis (TB) and is committed to eradicate the disease by 2025. He also highlighted an ambitious programme called ‘Ayushman Bharat’ i.e. Long Live India, which was launched by PM Narendra Modi and will provide coverage upto 5 lakh rupees per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization
BJP moved Privilege motion against Rahul Gandhi
The BJP on 20th July moved a privilege motion against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his debate during the “no-confidence motion” initiated by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). BJP MP, Prahlad Joshi sent the notice on behalf of the party. The notice stated that Rahul made “baseless allegations” against the Modi government over the Rafale deal. He also said that it had been made to mislead the members and the House and to bring disrepute to the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister. Privilege Motion: A privilege motion is a notice by any member of either House of a state legislature or Parliament, against anyone who is accused of breach of privilege.
Govt to use MicroDots technology to check vehicle thefts
In this technique, thousands of small dots laser etched will be sprayed with a vehicle identification number on all over the vehicle’s body including their engines. This tech is termed as MicroDots and it is almost impossible to remove these dots. Hence, the car’s identity can be established at any stage. The government’s highest automobile technical standard making body CMVR-TSC (Central Motor Vehicles Rules -Technical Standing Committee) will finalise the rules and its guidelines in the next one or two months.
Indian U-19 cricket team beat Sri Lanka in the first Youth Test
The Indian U-19 cricket team beat Sri Lanka by an innings and 21 runs in the first Youth Test at the Nondescripts Cricket Club ground, Sri Lanka. India scored 324 runs in 95.2 overs and Sri Lanka scored 244 runs in 70.3 overs. The second match between the two teams will be played from July 24 in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.
Fakhar Zaman becomes first Pakistani to score double century in ODIs
Fakhar Zaman broke the previous 194 run record of Saeed Anwar for Pakistan and also became the first player from Pakistan to score a double hundred in ODI cricket. He achieved the feet against Zimbabwe in the fourth match of the bilateral series in Bulawayo, and became overall sixth batsman to smash a double hundred in men’s ODI cricket history. CJ Banerjee elevated to SC and Tahilramani to be CJ of Madras HC
Chief Justice (CJ) Indira Banerjee is being elevated to the Supreme Court (SC) under the recommendation of a collegium led by SC Chief Justice Dipak Misra. In order to fill the vacancy for the top judge in Madras High Court (HC) created because of the Justice Banerjee’s elevation, the collegium has found Justice V.K.Tahilramani who is suitable in all respects to take over from Justice Banerjee.
Maharashtra Govt to provide Rs. 21,000 crore package for Vidarbha, Marathwada
The BJP-led Maharashtra government announced a special package worth over ₹21,000 crore for the development of industries, agriculture and tourism in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. ♦ A new government milk brand “Gondavana” would be created, for this, a plant will be set up in Gadchiroli district to manufacture products under the brand name. ♦ A “skill university” would be set up at Aurangabad, while hostels would be constructed in all 19 districts of Vidarbha and Marathwada. ♦ A medical college would be set up on a private-public-partnership basis at Washim.
