Tripartite MoU for Rooppur Nuclear Plant

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Moscow, Russia between the State Atomic Energy Corporation ‘Rosatom’; the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Department of Atomic Energy on 1st March 2018 on trilateral cooperation in implementation of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project in Bangladesh. The MoU envisages rendering of consultancy to Bangladesh in performance of work related to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant construction and executing transfer and exchange of knowledge, expertise, consultancy advice, technical support and knowhow, sharing of resources and experience on regulatory aspects, rendering assistance in respect of Indian personnel and qualified Indian institutions experienced in construction, commissioning and operation of technically demanding industrial facilities to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

Government decides to remove customs duty on export of sugar from its current level of 20% to zero percent

During the current Sugar Season 2017-18, the sugar production in the country is estimated to be substantially higher than the estimated domestic consumption. Sufficient surplus stock of sugar may be available for export. In order to promote exports with the objective of evacuating surplus stocks from the country, the Government has decided to remove customs duty on export of sugar from its current level of 20% to zero percent. This will also help in maintaining demand and supply balance and thereby stabilising the domestic sugar prices in the country.

 

Government approves Plastic Park to be set up in Deoghar District, Jharkhand

Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Ananthkumar announced that the Government of India has approved the setting up of a Plastic Park in Deoghar District, Jharkhand, here today. The project would be set up at a cost of Rs. 120 crores in an area of 150 acres and a range of polymer products including woven sacks, moulded furniture, water tanks, bottles, pipes mosquito nets, etc would be manufactured. It has great potential for attracting investment for setting up an ecosystem for plastic industry and generate employment opportunities for the local populace, the Minister informed.

 

Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship sign MoU on skill development training programmes at Krishi Vigyan Kendras

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship today signed an MoU to conduct skill development training programmes for agriculture and allied sector, on a regular basis, at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs). Meanwhile, the skill development training programmes currently being run across KVKs will continue.

 

National Cultural Audiovisual Archives (NCAA) becomes the World’s First Trusted Digital Repository

National Cultural Audiovisual Archives (NCAA) project of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, implemented by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has been certified as the world’s first Trusted Digital Repository as per ISO 16363:2012 standard, granted by Primary Trustworthy Digital Repository Authorisation Body Ltd. (PTAB), United Kingdom. http://www.iso16363.org/iso-certification/certified-clients/indira-gandhi-national-centre-for-the-arts/. Leveraging this historic achievement, the plan for the next phase is to integrate about three lakh hours of audiovisuals materials, a corpus estimated based on a scoping survey conducted in 25 cities across the country, on this platform over the next five years.

General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Army Staff released a book on Paramveer Chakra Awardees – ‘Paramveer Parwane’ on 20 March 2018. Exhorting the scientific fraternity to develop a scientific temper at the grassroots level, Governor of Manipur, Dr. Najma Heptullah has said that it is the responsibility of the scientific community to develop young minds to further research in our country. She averred that India is becoming a powerhouse of scientific thought.  Expressing her thoughts on the theme of this year’s Indian Science Congress, she said, “The North-East and Manipur are still an unreached place for many Indians. Everyday a new flora, a new fauna is discovered here. Many varieties of plants with medicinal properties are found here,”  She urged the scientists present in the gathering to adopt a place in an area and do research on the soil, the plants and water resources of that place to develop young minds and further research at the grassroots level.

BHEL inks tech pact with Korea-based HLB Power

State-run power equipment maker BHEL on Wednesday said it has entered into a technology collaboration agreement (TCA) with HLB Power, Republic of Korea.

The collaboration is for in-house design and manufacture of large size gates and dampers for use in coal fired power plants, to be commissioned or retrofitted with high capacity emission control equipment, a BHEL statement said.
