There is hardly any time left for the CGL exam 2018 and if you haven’t started yet, gear up and start immediately. Candidates are busy pouring over the textbooks, the coaching notes, the online tutorials and are trying to memorize the concepts. Well, the first and foremost step towards success in any Entrance exam is achieved by devising a perfect study plan. The candidate must be well aware about the syllabus, should be equipped with proper preparation resources, previous year’s papers and should inculcate mock tests in the study plan as well. This article orients the candidates with apt preparation tips.
Knowing about the syllabus
Before kicking off with the preparation, a student must be aware about the syllabus. The SSC CGL exam is basically divided four tiers namely CBE, Descriptive test, Skill test). It’s the tier 1 which is very hard to crack.
The syllabus for tier 1 mainly consists of four sections such General Knowledge, English, Aptitude and reasoning or General Intelligence. The paper is of 100 marks and has to be attempted in 60 minutes. Each question carries 2 marks and the paper comes in MCQ format.
Analyze your weaker areas
Now you have the syllabus with you. It’s time for you to analyze your weak and strong areas. Start working over your weaker areas and keep practicing your stronger areas along side. Do not ignore the things which you know. Your little ignorance may turn your cards against you.
Studying Quant
Quantitative Ability, often termed as ‘quant’ by the aspirants needs a lot of focus and concentration over the concepts and the formulas as well. You need to cover mensuration, trigonometry, time, distances, work, Data Analysis, Algebra and geometry.
General Awareness
Well for this section, I would recommend pick up NCERT books for classes 6 to 10 and pour them in your brains. For NCERT solution books, there are umpteen websites available over the internet. You can also take help of online video streaming websites such as YouTube etc. you need to focus on History, geography, economics, General Science and Current affairs.
Reasoning Ability
Reasoning test is basically conducted you check your mental ability. You need lots and lots of practice to gain mastery in the subject. The more question you run through your hands, the more confident you will become. You need to focus on Analogy, Number series, Non-verbal & verbal reasoning’s, series and sequences, coding and decoding.
English
This is genuinely a scoring subject as English is just a play how well you can mug up the things. But along with hard work, aim for smart work. Study the word roots well, the etymology automatically becomes your cup of tea. You need to focus on synonyms, antonyms, error spotting, comprehension passages and grammar.
Revise Revise and Revise
The ultimate key to crack SSC CGL is revision. Stop learning new things before a couple of weeks and lay stress over revision only. Make sure all the formulas are by heart by this time. Read newspaper daily to build on your vocab.
Time Management during exam
It may happen sometimes that the first section in the exam is difficult and other sections are easy. Aspirants generally spent a large amount of time in one section only and by the time they reach the next section, there is very less time left. So manage you time properly such as 10 mins for English, 15 mins each for reasoning and quant and 10 minutes for general ability and the last 10 minutes for revision or un-attempted questions.
Just have faith in yourself and give as much mock exams as you can. Good Luck!!
