International Conference on Yoga for Diabetes:

On 4 January 2017, International Conference on “Yoga for Diabetes” was Organised at New Delhi. The three day conference was inaugurated by Minister of State for Ayush, Shripad Yesso Naik. The Conference aims to generate discussions on the role of Yoga in the prevention and  management of Diabetes and to draw up a road map  to be adopted for the control of Diabetes through Yoga.


Two NASA missions to study early Solar system:

NASA has announced two ambitious missions that will look towards asteroids to unlock some of the secrets of the formation of the solar system. The new Discovery missions Lucy and Psyche are expected to launch early next decade. These missions will study such objects which are relics left over from the early beginnings of the solar system, providing new clues as to how planets and other bodies formed.


Gen, Raheel sharif to head Islamic Military Alliance:

General Raheel Sharif, the former Pakistani army nation military coalition formed to serve as a platform for security cooperation and combat terrorism, the Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism. Raheel retired as the army Chief in November and has been succeeded by General Qamar Javed Bajwa.


Donald Trump names Dan Coats as US intelligence Chief:

Donald Trump is expected to name retired Indiana Senator Dan Coats to replace James Clapper as Director of National Intelligence. Mr. Coats is a long – time Republican member of congress, having served in the House through the 1980s, the Senate the 1990s, and as US ambassador to Germany during from 2001 to 2005. He returned to the Senate to serve from 2011 to through 2017.


Sania Mirza wins Brisbane doubles title but loses No.1 rank:

Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza picked up her first title of the season, combining with American Bethanie Mattek- Sands to lift the Brisbane International Women’s doubles title, but ended up losing the world No. 1 crown to her partner. The top-seeded Indo-American duo triumphed 6-2, 6-3, against the second seeded Russian team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in the final match.


Djokovic wins Qatar Tennis title:

Novak Djokovic has own the Qatar Open Tennis title. In an epic final in Doha, the Serbian defeated Andy Murray of UK by 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Djokovic has taken the first battle of the 2017 ATP World Tour season against Andy Murray.


China to build world’s highest altitude Telescopes in Tibet:

China is setting up the World’s highest altitude gravitational wave telescopes in a Tibet Prefecture close to Line of Actual Control with India with a budget of $ 18.8 million to detect faintest echoes resonating from the universe which may reveal more about the Big Bang Theory.


Dell unveils World’s first wireless laptop:

American tech giant Dell, on January 6, 2017 Unveiled the “Latitude 7285’, the World’s First laptop with wireless charging technology.  The convertible laptop with detachable tablet comes with a wireless charging pad placed beneath the laptop’s keyboard. The laptop also features a 12 – inch display, up to 16 GB RAM, up to 512GB storage, and provides 6 hours of battery in tablet mode.


Israel harnessing sunshine with world’s tallest solar tower:

In sunny Israel solar energy supplies only a small percentage of the nation’s power needs, leaving it far behind countries with cloudier and colder climates. Now the fledgling salar industry is trying to make a leap forward with a large scale project boasting the world’s tallest solar tower, as a symbol of Israel’s renewable energy ambitions.


Former West Bengal Minister Saral Deb Passes away:

Veteran All India Forward Bloc leader and former West Bengal Minister Saral Deb passed away following a prolonged illness. He was 82. He was a six-time state legislator, winning from Barasat constituency of North 24 parganas district. Deb was the state Library Minister from 1977 to 1982 and held Cooperative portfolio from 1982 to 1987.
