Shri J P Nadda Launches National Viral Hepatitis Control Program

“With this initiative, Government is strongly committed to work towards elimination of viral hepatitis by 2030.”  This was stated by Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare as he launched the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program to mark the World Hepatitis Day, 2018, here today. At the function, Shri J P Nadda also released the Operational Guidelines for National Viral Hepatitis Control Program, National Laboratory Guidelines for Viral Hepatitis Testing and National Guidelines for Diagnosis and Management of Viral Hepatitis. Shri Manoj Sinha, MoS (Independent Charge), Ministry of Communication also released the Commemorative Stamp at the occasion.

Dharmendra Pradhan lays the Foundation stone for permanent campus for National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) for Women in Mohali

The Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Skill Development &Entrepreneurship Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, laid the foundation stone for permanent campus of National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) for Women at Mohali, Punjab today. This is the first NSTI Institute for Punjab and only one of its kind in India which is exclusively for women.  The Minister also launched a unique Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) which would admit differently abled persons as well, also a first of its kind in India at Mohali. The Institute is presently operating out of temporary campus at Rajpura. 

TalentQuest partners with PES University, Unity Tech to launch AR/VR Centre of Excellence

TalentQuest, a talent management and learning solutions company, launched academic Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality (AR/VR) Centre of Excellence (COE) in association with PES University and Unity Technologies.

The COE managed by TalentQuest will provide a one-year AR/VR certification programme, resulting in a diploma from PES University. While, Unity Technologies would provide licenses of its software for hands-on learning at the COE.

Netmagic launches data centres in Bengaluru, Mumbai

With the launch of its two data centres in Bengaluru and Mumbai, Netmagic Solutions, a subsidiary of Japanese telecom giant NTT Communications, expects to grow 30-35 per cent this financial year and plans to hire 250 people.

The Bengaluru data centre will have the capacity to house 1,500 racks of servers that will cater to e-commerce, IT services and BPO companies

Genisights launches voice-enabled AI dashboard

Genisights, a Nasscom incubated data analytics company, on Friday launched a voice-enabled Artificial Intelligence (AI) dashboard, ‘Flash’, which provides business solutions gained through data analysis.

“The next stage of evolution is to drive AI from topic of interest to mainstream application,” said Lakshmi Narayanan, former chairman of Nasscom and Emeritus Vice-Chairman, Cognizant, while launching Flash.

Odisha CM Inaugurates Rs 300 Crore Irrigation Dam Project

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Rs 300 crore Rukura Medium Irrigation Dam project in Sundargarh district. This project will irrigate 5,800 hectares of the agricultural field. He stated that his promises to provide irrigation to an additional 10 lakh hectare of land ahead of 2014 elections, will be fulfilled by 2019.

IRDAI Forms Panel To Review 3rd Party Motor Cover Costs

Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) constituted a 16-member committee to examine motor third party insurance pricing aspects and make recommendations on the premium rates for 2019-20. IRDAI Member P.J. Joseph appointed as the Chairman of the committee. This is for the first time IRDAI has formed such a committee. The committee has also been tasked to revisit the classification of vehicles, in view of the development in the industry.

India and China agree to maintain border tranquility

India and China on July 26, 2018, reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and tranquility along their border by enhancing communications between their militaries. The agreement came during a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the annual BRICS Summit in Johannesburg. Both leaders agreed to give their militaries the necessary directions to enhance communications between them and to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas.

MEA Sushma Swaraj describes ASEAN as focal point of Indias foreign policy

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj asked the concerned authorities to take strict action against illegal agents who are sending people on fake promises to foreign countries. The people are suffering and being exploited in the name of good opportunities by these agents. The minister requested the states to identify such illegal agents who are bypassing all rules and regulations. Her ministry has saved a large number of females who were trafficked in the lure of jobs. Her efforts are being made in NRI marriages to provide justice to those females who have suffered in such marriages. Punjab alone more than 15,000 females have been left by their NRI husbands which is a matter of concern.

India and US to hold first ’22 dialogue’ in September: USA

United States of America looking forward to the “two-plus-two” dialogue with India in New Delhi in September. Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Alice Wells told lawmakers during a Congressional hearing that she expects substantial progress will be made in the bilateral relationship during the dialogue. She was responding to a question from Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera. The two countries are close to signing the long-pending foundational agreements that will make it easier for the US to share classified information and undertake logistical activities together. The September meeting will be the first “two-plus-two” dialogue between India and the United States. It was announced last year during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with President Donald Trump.

PSUs and Private sectors donated for Clean Ganga Project

Water Ministry has collected nearly 90% of the dedicated fund from State and Central government public sector units (PSU) for the various project under the Clean Ganga Fund (CGF). The PSUs granted around Rs.220 crore to the CGF as of January 2018 and the Private companies donated around Rs.20 crore. Apart from these the public sector, Central public sector and Government Departments contributed Rs.177 crore. The government will be using the fund for nearly 288 projects under CGF of worth Rs.20,000 crore, and clean up 70%-80% of the river by March.

Threat by kala azar in Kozhikodes Sooppikkada village, Kerela

Kozhikode’s Sooppikkada village, Kerala faces kala-azar or visceral leishmaniasis. Kala-azar is also known colloquially as black fever and Dumdum fever and is associated with high fatality. Precautionary measures are being taken in the area by spraying with insecticides to kill the infected sandflies which spread the disease. A rapid-response team has been set up, which involves local grama panchayat president, local medical officer, vet, forest officer and local Kundumbasree workers. An awareness session in the panchayat will be initiated on July 30.

EC announced VVPATs will be ready for Lok Sabha polls inspite of technical issues

Election Commission said that the deployment of Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPAT) are delayed as the Technical Experts Committee (TEC) on Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) appointed by the Commission analyses the technology stabilisation issues in the initial batches and incorporates essential design improvements. But the commission has assured that all VVPATs shall be delivered well before the end of November 2018. EC has placed an order of 16.15 lakh VVPATs to the Public Sector Unit (PSU) manufacturers Bharat Electronics Limited (BHEL) and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), to meet the requirements for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Google has revealed about the AI chips for its data centres

At Google Cloud Next ’18 conference in San Francisco, Google revealed that it has gone beyond and building an artificial intelligence (AI) chips for its data centres. The aim is to help the customers in developing and deploying intelligent connected devices at scale. The first one was ‘Edge TPU,’ a new hardware chip, so small that four of them can fit on a U.S penny, Injong Rhee, VP, IoT, Google Cloud, demonstrated on the stage.

Cricket Curry festival organised in Japan to promote cricket

International cricket’s governing body, ICC, organised the ‘Sano Cricket Curry Festival’ in the Japanese city of Sano to promote cricket in the nation. A cricket match between the Japanese cricket team and an Indian team was held at the event. The festival also featured cultural events and food from cricket-playing nations like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Museum for all Indian Prime Ministers to be built at Nehru’s former residence

A museum dedicated to all former and future Prime Ministers will be built at Delhi’s Teen Murti Bhavan, which served as Jawaharlal Nehru’s official residence as PM until his death in office. The decision was taken amidst opposition from Congress leaders who claimed it would dilute Nehru’s legacy.

 Indian women’s compound archery team reaches World No: 1 rank

With India’s archery twin silver medal winning effort in the Antalya and Berlin World Cups, the Indian women’s compound archery team lead the chart with 342.6 points, six points ahead of second-placed Chinese Taipei. The team comprises of V Jyothi Surekha, Trisha Deb, P Lily Chanu, Muskan Kirar, Divya Dhayal, and Madhumita. Recurve archer Deepika Kumari had been a former world number one. Deepika and Abhishek Verma are the only Indians in top-10 in the individual categories.
