China inaugurated its first private research university

China’s first private research university has been officially inaugurated in Zhejiang Province’s Hangzhou city. Five Nobel laureates attended the founding ceremony of Westlake University in Hangzhou. It aimed at pushing forward national higher education reform.

PayPay allows users to store money from a bank account in their “PayPay” wallet and aims to promote the use of cashless payment in Japan. Japan accounts for only 20% of overall cashless transactions in the country.

NASA celebrates 10 years of operation of Fermi Gamma ray Space Telescope

NASA’s Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope completes 10 years of operations. To celebrate this, the NASA scientists have devised a new set of 21 modern gamma-ray constellations. The constellations were named them after fictional characters such as the Hulk and Godzilla. They were constructed with sources visible through its gamma-ray telescope. The new constellations include a few characters from modern myths. Among them are the Little Prince, the time-warping TARDIS from ‘Doctor Who,’ Godzilla and his heat ray, the antimatter-powered U.S.S. Enterprise from ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’ and the Hulk, the product of a gamma-ray experiment gone awry.

Orientation workshop on Health and Nutrition Initiatives under Aspirational District Programme and launch of e-Mitra Mobile app

National Workshop for Orientation of District Officials of Aspirational Districts on Health and Nutrition, was held in New Delhi. It was organized by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD). It was inaugurated by Ashwini Kumar Choubey and Anupriya Patel, Ministers of State for Health and Family Welfare. The e-Mitra (Mobile Integrated Toolkit RMNCH+A) app has been designed to complement the Aspirational District Programme. It will offer a one-stop solution to access RMNCH+A related statistics from various sources.

Twenty Seventh International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Fusion Energy Conference held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat

It is organized by IAEA. It is hosted by the Department of Atomic Energy and Gandhinagar-based Institute of Plasma Research. It aims to provide a platform for discussion of major physics and technology issues and innovative concepts related to the use of nuclear fusion as a source of energy. International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Organisation, European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom), research institutes involved in developing smaller plasma devices are participating in the conference.

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated three-day Vishwa Shanti Ahimsa Sammelan in Maharashtra

The conference was organized by the Bhagwan Rishabhdev Murti Nirman Samiti. The President presented the 1st international “Bhagwan Rishabhdev Award” to the Teerthanker Mahaveer University of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. The award consisted of a cash prize of Rs. 11 lakh, a memento, and a citation. It was received by the chancellor of Teerthanker Mahaveer University Suresh Jain.

“Harit Diwali-Swasth Diwali” campaign launched by Ministry of Environment

Air pollution is a serious health issue in the country especially in the northern parts during winter seasons. The air pollution in the northern region is attributed to dust, burning of crops in certain states, burning of garbage construction and prevailing climatic conditions. This air pollution has serious impacts on the health of children aged people and people suffering from respiratory ailments. Diwali which is a festival of lights falls during the same period. As a matter of practice people have been celebrating Diwali by bursting crackers.  Crackers contains combustible chemicals that include potassium chlorate powdered aluminum, magnesium, salts of barium, copper, sodium, lithium, strontium etc. and emits smoke on combustion of these chemicals along with sound.  This smoke and sound has health impacts on children, aged people and also animal and birds. Apart from these compounds large amount of waste is also generated after bursting of crackers. Keeping in view the above detrimental effects and also the importance of the festival, Ministry has initiated a “Harit–Diwali” campaign.
