PM inaugurates new ASI Headquarters in New Delhi
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated Dharohar Bhawan – the new Headquarters building of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), – at Tilak Marg in New Delhi today.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Archaeological Survey of India has performed significant work over the course of the last 150 years or so.
MoU on Defence Salary Package signed between Indian Army and State Bank of India
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Army and SBI on the Defence Salary Package on 12 July 2018. The signing-in ceremony was chaired by the Adjutant General Lt Gen Ashwani Kumar and was attended by top officials of SBI headed by Shri PK Gupta, Managing Director (Retail and Development Banking), SBI.
Shri Nitin Gadkari to lay Foundation Stone for widening of NH-16 between Icchapuram and Anakapalli in Andhra Pradesh
Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation will lay the foundation stone for, and inaugurate National Highways and Port Connectivity projects worth Rs 6688 Crores in Andhra Pradesh at an event in Vishakhapatnam tomorrow. The Minister is on a three day official visit to the state from 11th to 13th of this month.
The NH projects for which foundation stone will be laid include capacity augmentation of the existing 4-lane, 13.47 km stretch of NH-16 from Icchapuram to Narasannapet at a cost of Rs 439 Crores, 6-laning of 54.20 km stretch of NH-16 from Narasannapet to Ranasthalam at a cost of Rs 1350 Crore, 6-laning of NH-16 from Ranasthalam to Anandapuram (Visakhapatnam) at a cost of Rs 1187.10 Crore and 6-laning of Anandapuram –Pendurthi – Anakapalli Section of NH-16 at a cost of Rs 2013 Crore. These projects will improve connectivity between Chennai and Kolkata, reduce travel time between the two cities and also lower traffic congestion in Vishakhapatnam city

The First Meeting of Sub-Group of Chief Ministers on coordination between MGNREGA and Agriculture was held at NITI Aayog today. The Convener of the Sub-Group Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh participated in the meeting in person. Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar and Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Vijay Rupani joined in the deliberations through video conferencing. Shri N. Chandra Babu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Ms Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of West Bengal sent their suggestions in writing to the Convener of the sub-group. Member (Agriculture), NITI Aayog Prof. Ramesh Chand, Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog; Secretary, Rural Development; Chief Executive Officer, NRAA, Senior Officers of NITI Aayog, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Ministry of Agriculture and State Government of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh attended the delibeartions.

BSNL starts first internet telephony service in India
State-run telecom firm BSNL today unveiled first internet telephony service in the country that will allow users to dial any telephone number in India through its mobile app. Now BSNL customers will be able to make calls using the company’s mobile app “Wings” to any phone number in the country.
Aadhaar enabled DBT savings estimated over Rs 90,000 crore
After inception of Aadhaar-based Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), over Rs 90,000 crore has been saved and gained as on March 31 this year. 121 crore residents have so far enrolled for Aadhaar card and on an average over 30 million (3 crore) e-transactions are done using the identification system. Aadhaar data is completely safe and secure and is kept in about 7,000 servers in Bengaluru and Manesar.
Spiritual leader Dada J P Vaswani passes away
Dada Vaswani who was chief of Sadhu Vaswani Mission, passes away at the age of 99 in Pune. He was also known for promoting vegetarianism and animal rights. Vaswani was born on August 2, 1918 in Pakistan’s Hyderabad city in a Sindhi family. He studied MSc in Physics and also worked as a teacher at St Mira’s College in Pune for some time.

Hima Das becomes first woman to win gold in World Jr Athletics Championships
Hima Das, 18-year-old from Dhing village in Assam is first Indian woman to win gold at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships. She won the women’s 400 metres final competition in Tempere, Finland, clocking 51.46 seconds. Andrea Miklos of Romania clocked a personal best of 52.07 seconds to finish second while Taylor Manson of the United States was third in 52.28 seconds.
