HCL Tech inks deal with Falck for IT infra transformation
HCL Technologies has signed an end-to-end IT infrastructure services deal with Falck, a leader in the ambulance and healthcare markets.
Through this deal, HCL will support Falck’s business transformation by consolidating, simplifying and standardising the company’s IT infrastructure operations through a centralised global service delivery model. The new model will enable greater automation, improved cost transparency, enhanced operational efficiency and increased control.
Nasscom, JETRO to collaborate in the IoT space
NASSCOM will explore opportunities to foster collaborative efforts in the digital space with Japanese industry, in association with the Japanese trade organisation. A NASSCOM delegation will meet municipal governments in the Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Shimane and Yokohama prefectures.
PhonePe ties up with Ola for cab, auto booking
With the aim to create an open payment system and to make wallets interoperable, mobile wallet company PhonePe has partnered with taxi hailing app, Ola, for cab and auto booking. Users can now book an Ola using the PhonePe app. With this integration, PhonePe users will have access to Ola’s multi-modal commuting offerings, along with the benefit of using the industry-first AutoPay feature.
SAARC fund to soon launch social enterprise programme in India, 7 other member nations
Thimpu-based SAARC Development Fund will soon be launching a social enterprise development programme (SEDP) to fund 80 entities annually across eight-member states, including India.
SDF was established by the heads of the eight SAARC member states in April 2010 and its governing council comprises finance ministers of these eight countries. SDF is in the process of launching the SEDP as part of its social window, SDF CEO Sunil Motiwal said in an interview to PTI.
Meghana becomes 1st woman IAF fighter pilot from south India
Flying Officer Meghana Shanbough MR from Karnataka has become the first woman Indian Air Force fighter pilot from south India. Before her, only five other female fighter pilots have joined the ranks. She graduates from the Air Force Academy (AFA) in Dundigal.
HDFC has been ranked 5th biggest consumer financial services company worldwide by Forbes
Housing finance major HDFC has been ranked as the 5th biggest public company globally in the ‘consumer financial services category’ on a list compiled by Forbes magazine. American Express has ranked No:1 in this category, while Indiabulls Housing Finance is the only other Indian company (at 13th place) on the list. There are a total of 58 Indian companies on the overall list of 2,000 firms from across the world. These include Reliance Industries at 83rd place, the only from India in the top-100. Besides, HDFC Bank is at 202nd, ONGC at 266th, Indian Oil at 270th and ICICI Bank at 320th.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated three 100 MW solar power projects erected at Virudhunagar and Tirunelveli districts
Union Minister for Railways, Coal, Finance & Company Affairs, Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited (NLCIL)’s three 100 MW Solar Power Projects which are situated at Thoppalaakkarai and Sethupuram in Virudhunagar District and Sellaiya Sezhiyanallur in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu. These projects were erected at a cost of Rs.1300 Crores, which includes Operation & Maintenance cost for 15 Years.
Indian Railways to issue Credit card like medical cards to employees, retirees
The Railways has decided to replace the existing book-like medical cards issued to its employees and pensioners with credit card-like health cards carrying unique all-India number. At present, the medical cards issued by the zonal railways are in the form of booklets which resemble ration cards. Currently, railway has around 13 lakh employees and around the same number of pensioners and all their dependents are eligible to use the medical card.
21 Indian cities including Delhi, Bengaluru to run out of groundwater by 2020, as per NITI Aayog report
Niti Aayog’s Composite Water Management Index report highlights that 21 major Indian cities, including Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru will run out of ground water by 2020, and affecting 100 million people. It further stated that 40% Indian population will have no access to drinking water by 2030 and that India will lose 6% GDP by 2050 due to the crisis.
China will impose further 25 percent tariffs on US imports in tit for tat move
After the US imposed a 25% tariff on Chinese imports, China has announced its decision to impose further 25 percent tariffs on 659 American products worth $50 billion. China said it was “unwilling to have a trade war” with the US but was left with no choice due to the US’ “myopic behaviour”.
Mumbai shops, bars to not sell liquor for 3 days from June 23 to 25 over polls
Due to Maharashtra Legislative Council elections scheduled to be conducted on June 25, Bars and shops in Mumbai have been prohibited from selling liquor from June 23-25. These will be in addition to the nine official dry days that the state has in a year. Alcohol sale is also banned in the city on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on June 16.
Smriti Mandhana to become first Indian cricketer to play in Englands Kia Super League
India Women’s Cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana (21 year old) will become the first Indian player to appear in Kia Super League – the women’s cricket super league in England. Last month, she captained the IPL Trailblazers in the recent Women’s T20 Challenge, which took place ahead of the VIVO IPL Qualifier One. Smriti has also featured in the Big Bash League for Brisbane Heat.
