The 3-day NATIONAL YOGA OLYMPIAD-2018 organized by NCERT begins in New Delhi
A 3-day National Yoga Olympiad was inaugurated at the National Council of Educational Research and Training in CIET in New Delhi today by Mr. Eric Falt, Director and UNESCO Representative of the New Delhi Cluster Office for India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
This is the third consecutive year of National Yoga Olympiad of NCERT and this year about 500 students from 26 States and 4 RIEs are participating in the Olympiad as compared to the participation of students from 25 States/UTs last year.
Google to invest $550 mn in Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com
Google will invest $550 million in Chinese e-commerce powerhouse JD.com, part of the US internet giant’s efforts to expand its presence in fast-growing Asian markets and battle rivals including Amazon.com.
The two companies described the investment as one piece of a broader partnership that will include the promotion of JD.com products on Google’s shopping service. This could help JD.com expand beyond its base in China and Southeast Asia and establish a meaningful presence in US and European markets.
India And Nepal To Have Four New Air Gateways
India has agreed to open four new air entry points to Nepal in the eastern and western parts of the country. This aims at facilitating movement of international traffic. The four routes that India agreed to make two-way are 1) Kathmandu-Biratnagar-Dhaka, 2) Kathmandu-Janakpur-Kolkata 3) Kathmandu-Janakpur-Patna in the eastern part of Nepal and 4) Kathmandu-Mahendranagar-Delhi (L626) in the west.

Google celebrated Fathers Day with a playful yet symbolic doodle
On June 17, 2018, Google celebrated Father’s Day across India with a playful yet symbolic doodle. The doodle shows colorful hand prints that closely resemble a dinosaurs family or two. Last year, Google celebrated the day with an animated cacti doodle showing the various roles a father plays in a family. This day was first observed in the United States in 1908 and is now celebrated on different days in many countries.
UAE to grant free 48 hour transit visa at Dubai, Abu Dhabi
The UAE government has decided that to grant free transit visas for first 48 hours to transit passengers. This visa can be extended for up to 96 hours by paying 50 Dirham (about Rs 930).
Nepal, China to sign pact on Tibet Kathmandu railway line during the visit of Nepal PM Oli
Nepal Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s will visit China from June 19 to 24. During this visit, Nepal will sign an MoU on constructing a railway line connecting Kerung of Tibet to Kathmandu. This will be the first visit to China by the Prime Minister since he assumed power in February.

India proposes 241 mn dollar retaliatory tariffs on 30 products imported from the US
India has proposed to introduce $240-million retaliatory tariffs on a list of 30 items imported from the US, including motor cycle, certain iron and steel goods, boric acid and lentils. India had asked the US to exempt it from its tariffs on steel and aluminium, but US rejected the request. India has notified the World Trade Organisation (WTO) about the list, including apples, almonds and motorcycles, on which it intends to impose tariffs.

UK omits India from relaxed student visa rules
UK announced a relaxation of the Tier 4 visa category for overseas students from 25 nations. However, India has been left out of this new expanded list, which means Indian students applying for similar courses will continue to face rigorous checks and documentary requirements. The changes, which come into effect on July 6, aim to make it easier for international students to come to study in the UK.

Addressing the governing council of NITI Ayog in New Delhi, Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has renewed the demand for Statehood with special status for the Union Territory. He claimed Puducherry faces the same issues as Delhi. Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi has been slowing down the process of governance by rejecting or delaying the government project, but despite that the elected government is functioning.
States have collected taxes worth 10,000 crore rupees since the rollout of Transport Mission Mode Project
States have collected taxes worth ₹10,000 crore online since the rollout of Transport Mission Mode Project (MMP) under the Centre’s e-Governance initiative. Over 19 crore vehicles and 10 crore driving license records have come under the National Register. Two flagship applications under Transport MMP — “Vahan” and “Sarathi” are implemented. Vahan — deal with vehicle registration, taxation, permit, fitness and associated services; while Sarathi is related to driving licence, learner licence, driving schools and related activities. Over 50 lakh national permits have been issued online.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis visits Virgin Hyperloop One test site in US
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis visited one of “Virgin Hyperloop One” test sites in the US. This visit follows the MoU signed by the state government with the Virgin Group to build the Mumbai-Pune Hyperloop at an estimated cost of ₹20,000 crore. The Hyperloop is expected to reduce the travel time between the two cities to 25 minutes. In February 2018, Virgin Hyperloop One founder and chairman Richard Branson had signed an agreement in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Fadnavis to take up the Mumbai-Pune project.
