Exim Bank, UNDP ink pact to extend financial support to MSMEs in N-E
Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) on Friday said it has signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for financing a project on ‘Capacity Building of MSMEs in North East India for Export Competitiveness’.
The agreement was signed by David Rasquinha, Managing Director, Exim Bank, and Marina Walter, Country Director, UNDP. The project, according to an Exim Bank statement, looks at creating stronger MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) in the North-East region to boost exports, generate employment and provide livelihood opportunities to the youth and women.
India, Germany sign pact for smart city cooperation
India on Friday signed a MoU with Germany to develop modules for providing urban basic services and housing for smart cities.
The MoU signed between Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs and the German development agency GIZ here would develop and apply concepts for sustainable urban development providing urban basic services and housing in select cities as well as smart cities in India.
GIZ would contribute up to €8 million for the project which would run for a period of three years.
Mahindra Aerospace, Viking Air tie up for small aircraft biz
Mahindra Aerospace has inked an initial pact with Viking Air of Canada to support each other’s non-competing aircraft business amid growing opportunities in the regional air connectivity space in India.
The pact is aimed at boosting market penetration in identified territories, and provide potential customers with multiple options based on specific operational requirements, Mahindra Aerospace.
EESL signs MoUs of Rs 3,730 cr with Andhra
The government-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) on Saturday signed MoUs with Andhra Pradesh government to invest Rs 3,730 crore in the state.
The MoUs, spanning e-mobility, energy efficiency and renewable energy, with the aim of creating 15,000 jobs, were signed at CII Partnership Summit, which began here on Saturday.
PM Narendra Modi launches Rs 1000-crore development schemes for Daman & Diu
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched development schemes worth Rs 1,000 crore for Daman and Diu, and also inaugurated a flight connecting Ahmedabad to coastal town of Diu.
The prime minister, who inaugurated Air Odisha’s flight connecting Ahmedabad with Diu under the Centre’s regional connectivity scheme UDAN, said air connectivity will boost tourism in the region.
He also launched a helicopter service connecting Daman and Diu
RBI launches Ombudsman Scheme for NBFCs
The RBI today launched ‘Ombudsman Scheme’ for non-banking financial companies (NBFC) for redressal of complaints against them.
“The scheme will provide a cost-free and expeditious complaint redressal mechanism relating to deficiency in the services by NBFCs covered under the Scheme,” the central bank said.
The offices of the NBFC ombudsmen will function at four metro centres — Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi.
Largest joint military drills in SE Asia conclude
The largest military exercises in Southeast Asia concluded on Friday in Thailand, after 11 days of drills, social and humanitarian projects and traditional jungle training.
A total of 11,075 soldiers from 29 countries participated in the Cobra Gold 2018 training, held in eastern Thailand, reports Efe news.
The United States was the biggest participant with 6,125 soldiers, followed by hosts Thailand, who sent 4,007 troops to the drills.
Veteran journalist Neelabh Mishra passes away
Veteran journalist and editor-in-chief of Delhi-based National Herald, Neelabh Mishra, died at a private hospital here today following an illness.
Congress chief Rahul Gandhi condoled the demise of Mishra, and described him an as “editor’s editor.”
