Shipping Ministry to set up technology centre at IIT-M

Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the Union Shipping Ministry for establishing the National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC).

NTCPWC will work to modernise Indian ports and fast-track waterways under the Centre’s Sagarmala project, an initiative for port-led infrastructure.

 

BSNL joins with Nokia to launch 4G service

State owned telecom firm BSNL today signed a pact with Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia to roll out 4G services in 10 telecom circles covering western and southern regions in India.

Nokia will deploy the technology in 10 telecom circles in India — Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana — serving large cities, businesses, technology and tourist hubs and nearly 38 million BSNL subscribers.

 

Tech Mahindra bets big on 5G, sets up lab with Intel

Tech Mahindra has set up a lab in Bengaluru in association with US chipmaker Intel as part of its preparedness for 5G services expected to be rolled out by 2019, said a top executive of the IT firm.

The Department of Telecom (DoT) expects to finalise a road map for the services by June this year.

CP Gurnani, CEO and Managing Director of Tech Mahindra, said the company has already re-skilled about 30,000 of its employees in handling emerging technologies.

Reliance Infra wins ₹292-crore arbitration award against Goa

Reliance Infrastructure has won an arbitration award of 292 crore against the Goa Government.

The need for arbitration arose due to prolonged non-payment of dues by the Goa Government towards supply of electricity by Reliance Infrastructure from its 48 MW Goa Power Plant in Sancoale.

RBI raises currency derivative trading limit to $100 million

Currency futures trading received a boost on Monday after the Reserve Bank of India raised the position limit for trading in currency derivatives on stock exchanges, for both resident and non-resident Indians, to $100 million across all currency pairs involving the rupee.

 

UIDAI introduces ‘Baal Aadhaar’ for children below 5 years of age

UIDAI or the Unique Identification Authority of India, on Monday morning, introduced a ‘Baal Aadhaar’ card. This blue-coloured card will be given to children below the age of five years. To get a Baal Aadhaar, no biometric details will be needed. UIDAI had made this announcement through a series of tweets on its official handle. “A child below 5 years of age gets a blue in coloured Aadhaar known as Baal Aadhaar. When the child becomes 5 yr old, a mandatory biometric update is required.

DRDO successfully carries out test flight of Rustom-2 drone

India’s premier defence research institute Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Sunday carried out “successful” test flight of its Rustom 2 drone, a medium-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), at Chalakere in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district.

Rustom 2 is being developed on the lines of predator drones of the US to carry out surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) roles for the armed forces with an endurance of 24 hours, officials said. “DRDO successfully flew its Rustom 2 today at its Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) at Chalakere at Chitradurga. This flight assumes significance due to the fact that this is the first flight in user configuration with higher power engine

CSIR signs MoU with IORA: CSIR-CIMAP to host coordinating center on medicinal plants

Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has entered into a MoU with the Regional Center for Science and Technology Transfer (RCSTT) of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) for designating Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow (CSIR-CIMAP) as Coordinating Center on Medicinal Plants.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, Director CSIR-CIMAP and Dr. A. Sedrpousan, Director, IORA-RCSTT.

Two day National Conference on e-Governance inaugurated in Hyderabad

The Union Minister of State for Consumers Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Commerce & Industry, Shri C.R. Choudhary and the Minister of Information Technology, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Industries and Commerce of Telangana state, Shri K.T. ‘SRIJAN’ (Station Rejuvenation Initiative through Joint ActioN), an idea competition for 635 Station Development on Indian Railways, has been launched at MyGov portal.

Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC) is taking up redevelopment of around 600 major Railway stations across the country. In this mega exercise, assistance and involvement of all stakeholders i.e. railway passengers, urban planners, architects, engineers is important. Towards this objective of stakeholders’ consultation, an idea competition for development of 635 stations on Indian Railways, ‘SRIJAN’ (Station Rejuvenation Initiative through Joint ActioN) has been launched at MyGov portal since 26.01.2018. The last date for submission of entries in this competition is 26.03.2018. The winners will get certificates and worthy ideas will be incorporated in the designs.

IRSDC has also launched competition through Mygov portal for IRSDC logo and tagline. The winner for logo competition will get cash prize of Rs 75,000/-and for tagline also will get Rs 75,000/-. The last date of submission of entries is 26.3.18.
