Saudi ARAMCO and ADNOC sign MoU for participating in the Ratnagiri Refinery project in Maharashtra
Saudi Aramco and ADNOC signed an MoU today to jointly develop and build an integrated refinery and petrochemicals complex at Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. The project will be implemented by Ratnagiri Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. (RRPCL).
The MoU was signed between Saudi Aramco President and CEO, Amin H. Nasser and H.E.Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State & ADNOC Group CEO. The signing was witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,who is on an official visit to India, and Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India.
NCST to organise “National Seminar on Conservation of Particularly Vulnerable Tribes of Andaman & Nicobar Islands: The Way Forward” on 27-28 June, 2018
National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) is organizing a National Seminar on “Conservation of Particularly Vulnerable Tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Islands: The Way Forward” on 27th and 28thJune, 2018 at Kamaladevi Multipurpose Hall, India International Centre, Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi. About 44 Ministries/Departments have been invited by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes to present their strategies and approach towards PVTGs in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This Seminar is being organized in collaboration with Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI) and Directors of 18 Tribal Research Institutes in different States have also been invited to deliberate on critical issues of tribal groups who are at the verge of extinction. Vice Chancellors of six Universities including Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak will provide academic inputs on PVTGs. Domain experts, NGO and Civil Society representatives will provide their perspective so that a holistic view is taken on way forward

The Government proposes to set up 3000 Van Dhan Kendras involving 30,000 SHGs across the country under the Van Dhan Scheme of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. In a new game changing initiative, the Prime Minister launched the Van Dhan Scheme of Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED on 14th April, 2018 during the celebrations of Ambedkar Jayanti at Bijapur Chattisgarh. Emphasizing the important role of value addition in increasing tribal incomes, the Prime Minister stated that Van Dhan, Jandhan and Goverdhan Schemes had the potential to change the tribal-rural economic system. All these three schemes in tandem need to be promoted for this purpose by the State Governments.
Report on ‘Women in Prisons’ launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development
The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) has come up with its report titled ‘Women in Prisons’ which aims to build an understanding of the various entitlements of women in prisons, the various issues faced by them and possible methods for resolution of the same. The report contains a comprehensive list of 134 recommendations for improving the lives of women under incarceration, addressing a wide range of issues pertaining to pregnancy and childbirth in prison, mental health, legal aid, reintegration in society and their caregiving responsibilities among others. Various changes in the National Model Prison Manual 2016 have also been suggested to bring it in line with international standards and norms.
Sandeep Sejwal grabs gold at Singapore National Swimming Championships
Indian swimmer Sandeep Sejwal clinched the gold medal in men’s 50m breaststroke event at the Singapore National Swimming Championships held in Singapore. Virdhawal Khade grabbed a creditable silver medal in the 50m freestyle event with a timing of 22.68 seconds even as compatriot Aaron Agnel Dsouza crashed out in the semifinals.
Deepika Kumari wins individual recurve gold at Salt Lake World Cup
Archer Deepika Kumari won her first individual gold medal in six years at the Salt Lake World Cup following a 7-3 win over Germany’s Michelle Kroppen in the recurve final. Abhishek Verma had won an individual silver in the Compound category and was part of the mixed team bronze winning side alongside Jyothi Surekha Vennam.

PM Modi inaugurates Rs 3,866 cr Mohanpura irrigation project in Madhya Pradesh
The Rs. 3,866-crore Mohanpura irrigation project in Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh includes a dam and a canal system, which benefit 727 villages in the state. Southern Railways imposes penalty of Rs.2,000 for taking selfie in front of train
Southern Railways will impose a fine of ₹2,000 on passengers who take a selfie in front of trains at railway stations or while standing on the footboard. People found repeating the offence will be imprisoned for six months. The initiative aims to cut down on selfie-related train mishaps which have grown recently.
Union Government approves tourism projects worth 1,800 crore rupees for Himachal

Saudi Arabia becomes last country in the World to allow women to drive
Women in Saudi Arabia have been legally allowed to drive for the first time in the history of one of the most conservative countries. On June 4, Saudi Arabia issued the first driving license to women, as Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud officially announced in September 2017 to allow women to drive. Driving schools for women have been set up in five cities in the kingdom.
Haryana makes use of LED bulbs mandatory in govt offices by 15 Aug
As per directions of the Haryana’s Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, all halogen, sodium bulbs and tube lights will be replaced with energy-efficient LED bulbs and tube lights. The use of incandescent lamps and purchase of sodium vapour lamps by government sector, government aided sector, boards and corporations and autonomous bodies have already been banned.
Keralas 4th international airport to open in September
Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan announced the state’s fourth international airport in Kannur will begin operations in September this year. Following a meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu, the CM added that development plans for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode airports were also discussed.
Haryana village 1st to pass No Toilet, No Bride resolution
Haryana’s Godikan village panchayat has passed a ‘No Toilet, No Bride’ resolution, becoming the first panchayat in the country to do so. According to the resolution, girls from Godikan will not be married off in houses without a toilet.
R Praggnanandhaa has become the second youngest Grandmaster in chess history
Soon after Chennai’s R Praggnanandhaa completed his third norm – beating Italian Grandmaster Luca Moroni in the eighth round of the Gredine Open at Ortisei in Italy, he has become the second youngest Grandmaster in chess history at the age of 12 years, 10 months, 13 days. The youngest Grandmaster ever is Russia’s Sergey Karjakin, who achieved the feat aged 12 years, 7 months and has held the record since 2002. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Mundka-Bahadurgarh corridor
11-km-long fully elevated Mundka-Bahadurgarh stretch, with seven stations, is an extension of the existing Delhi Metro’s Green Line from Inderlok to Mundka. Union Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Puri and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar attended the function in Bahadurgarh. Bahadurgarh, is also known as ‘Gateway to Haryana’. This is the third place in Haryana to be brought under Delhi Metro’s network, after Gurugram and Faridabad.
US sprinter Noah Lyles runs fastest 100m of 2018 in 9.88 seconds
20-year-old American sprinter Noah Lyles ran the fastest 100-metre race of the year to clinch the US national title in Des Moines, Iowa. He clocked 9.88 seconds in the final, after equalling Mike Rodgers’ world-leading time of 2018 of 9.89 seconds in the semi-finals.
