4th Regional Conference on ‘Futuristic, Resilient and Digital Infrastructure’ concludes in Bengaluru
The 4th Regional Conference on ‘Futuristic, Resilient and Digital Infrastructure’ organized by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) concluded in Bengaluru today. The 2-day Conference is a lead-up event to the 3rd Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) which is going to be hosted by the Government of India on 25th and 26th June 2018 in Mumbai. The Conference saw eminent delegates representing partner institutions, academia, civil society organizations and experts from various fields expressing their views on how to bring about institutional approaches for futuristic and digital infrastructure in India.
Indian Railways marks 26 years of Ladies Special Suburban Trains
On 5th May Indian Railways has a special reason to cheer and celebrate for the women commuters. The first ever Ladies Special train in the world was started between Churchgate and Borivali on 5th May, 1992. 5thMay 2018 will go down in the annals of history as the 26th anniversary of introduction of this milestone of Indian Railways dedicating an entire train to women commuters. The First Ladies special train, flagged off on Western Railways, was initially run between Churchgate and Borivali and further extended upto Virar in the year 1993.
NITI Aayog to Collaborate with IBM to develop Precision Agriculture using Artificial Intelligence
NITI Aayog and IBM signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) today to develop a crop yield prediction model using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide real time advisory to farmers in Aspirational Districts.
The SoI was signed in the presence of Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog and Shri Karan Bajwa, MD, IBM India.
The partnership aims to work together towards use of technology to provide insights to farmers to improve crop productivity, soil yield, control agricultural inputs with the overarching goal of improving farmers’ incomes.
National Conference of 244 selected Districts under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) held in New Delhi
The Ministry of Women and Child Development organized National Conference with the Nodal Officers of 244 Districts, State Nodal Officers and Senior Officers in New Delhi today. Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development inaugurated the event and interacted with 244 new districts with low Child Sex Ratio(CSR), from 25 States/ UTs.
Mohamed Salah Named Writers Footballer Of The Year
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne came second with Tottenham striker Harry Kane third. Salah, 25, has scored 31 goals in 34 league appearances for Liverpool this season. The Egypt star – the first African winner of the award – also won the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year award.
Vibrant North East 2018 Held In Guwahati
The ‘Vibrant North East 2018′, an event in which people would be made aware of central government’s schemes and programmes, was held in Guwahati, Assam. Players from the agriculture, food processing, consumer affairs, civil supply, drinking water and sanitation sectors participated in the three-day event. The event is organized by Delhi-based NGO, Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD). The main purpose of the event is to disseminate information about the schemes, grants, and projects of the Central Government to ensure that they are implemented as envisaged officially.
Philips Carbon Black to set up Rs. 600-crore plant in TN
RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group-owned Philips Carbon Black Ltd (PCBL) – the sixth largest global producer – will invest Rs. 900 crore towards capex by 2020.
According to Sanjiv Goenka, Group Chairman, around Rs. 600 crore will go towards a greenfield plant in Tamil Nadu that is expected to be operational around September 2020. The Tamil Nadu plant will have an annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes
Continental Auto, IIT-M ink pact for research in machine learning
Global automotive supplier Continental and IIT-Madras tied-up for advanced research in machine learning.
IIT-Madras, which has built some capability in machine learning and bio-inspired neural networks, will contribute to Continental’s ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) business that provides drivers and passengers with better safety and more comfort. A memorandum of understanding was signed

‘Go To Village’ Mission Launched In Manipur
