1st Sensitization Meeting of Stakeholders to make Delhi a Model Accessible City’ Held
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is having the commitment to uphold the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and to ensure the accessible and inclusive assets are created in the country. Chairing the ‘1st Sensitization Meeting of Stakeholders to make Delhi a Model Accessible City’ here today, Smt. Shakuntala D. Gamlin, Secretary, DEPwD said that the Department has taken up the initiative to coordinate the meeting of all key stakeholders, sensitize them about the legal mandates and would hold supervisory role in this entire journey.
India signs 200 million US Dollar Loan Deal with World Bank for National Nutrition Mission (POSHAN Abhiyaan) for 315 districts across all states/UTs
The Government of India signed a loan deal worth $ 200 million with the World Bank today for the National Nutrition Mission (POSHAN Abhiyaan). The loan would help the Government of India in achieving its goal of reducing stunting in children 0-6 years of age from 38.4% to 25% by the year 2022.
The POSHAN (PM’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment) Abhiyaan was launched by the Prime Minister on 8th March 2018 at Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.
NITI Aayog and Google sign SoI to help grow AI ecosystem in India
Aiming to foster growth for India’s nascent artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) ecosystem, NITI Aayog and Google have come together to work on a range of initiatives to help build the AI ecosystem across the country.
A Statement of Intent (SoI) was signed to this effect by Ms. Anna Roy, Advisor, NITI Aayog and Shri Rajan Anandan, Vice President, India and South East Asia, Google in the presence of the Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog.
100 additional One Stop Centres(OSCs) approved
In the Programme Approval Board (PAB) meeting of the Ministry of Women and Child Development today, 100 additional One Stop Centres have been approved in the States of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The Ministry of Women & Child Development has set up 182 Centres till date under the scheme of One Stop Centres (OSCs) for women affected by violence since April, 2015. Over 1.3 lakhs such women affected by violence have been assisted at these centres till date in 33 States/UTs.
RInfra alliance bags Rs. 7,000-cr Mumbai sea-link project
Anil Ambani-led Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) has received a letter of award from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for the 17.17-km Versova-Bandra Sea Link project in Mumbai, the company said in the statement.
Reliance Infrastructure bagged the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract project in partnership with Italian construction major Astaldi S.p.A after bidding Rs. 6,993.99 crore, lower than other bidders, but higher than MSRDC’s initial estimate of Rs. 5,500 crore.
Stayfree, DDB Mudra launch #ProjectFreePeriod for sex workers
For most women, their menstrual period is a nuisance they cannot get through quickly enough.
However, the sex workers of Mumbai’s Kamatipura welcome it – it gives them respite from their profession a few days every month.
Feminine hygiene brand Stayfree and its ad agency DDB Mudra are using this insight to collaborate on #ProjectFreePeriod, a vocational training programme to train these women in skills that can lead to their rehabilitation. It meshes with Stayfree’s #DreamsofProgress, which encourages women to normalise the discussion around periods and not let them interfere with their lives.
IIT Delhi to set up three research parks
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) is setting up three research parks to facilitate design and development of advanced technology, incubate more start-ups and promote industry collaboration.
Research parks will come up on IIT Delhi campus and in Sonepat and Jhajjar in Haryana. The parks are funded by the college and managed by the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT).
Maruti Suzuki set to shake up the vehicle lubricant market
Traditional vehicle lubricant makers are now facing competition from India’s largest car manufacturer and seller Maruti Suzuki that has launched its own line of lubricants, ECSTAR.
This is a game-changer. So far, sole lubricant manufacturers faced competition only from their co-branded counterparts (IndianOil makes lubricants for almost all major vehicle manufactures).
Reserve Bank of India Announced Rs10,000 Crore Bond Purchases
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced that it would buy Rs. 10,000 crore ($1.50 billion) of government bonds via open market operation (OMO), after failing to sell all the debt it had offered to bidders. The 10-year government bond yield rose to 7.75% from 7.74% before the auction result was announced. The eligible participants should submit their offers in electronic format on the Reserve Bank of India Core Banking Solution (E-Kuber) system.
