The day is observed to honor all patients suffering and fighting from thalassemia. It also appreciates scientists working hard to provide improved quality of life to people suffering from it.

Union Health & Family Welfare Minister launched AYUSH Sanjivani App
Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Union Health & Family Welfare Minister launched the mobile application ‘AYUSH Sanjivani’ App and two AYUSH based studies related to COVID-19 situation. The app was developed by the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).

GoI, AIIB sign agreement for USD 500 million COVID-19 support for India
Government of India and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) signed an agreement for a $500 million “COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project” on 8 May. The agreement will help India to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen its public health preparedness. 
UP passed an ordinance to suspend most labour laws for 3 years
Uttar Pradesh State government passed an ordinance ‘Uttar Pradesh Temporary Exemption from Certain Labour Laws Ordinance, 2020’ to suspend labour laws for the next three years. The move is aimed to boost industrial investment and employ the large number of migrant workers that have come back to their native villages in the state.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the road link from Dharchula (Uttarakhand) to Lipulekh (China Border) on 8 May. He flagged off a convoy of vehicles from Pithoragarh to Gunji through video conferencing. The road link was constructed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) engineers and personnel.
Finance Minister launched INR-USD Futures and Options contracts in the International Exchanges at GIFT-IFSC
Nirmala Sitaraman launched INR-USD Futures and Options contracts on the two International Exchanges, namely BSE’s India INX and NSE’s NSE-IFSC, at GIFT International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at Gandhinagar through video conference. The launch of INR-USD contracts at the exchanges in GIFT-IFSC is a step in bringing the international financial centres to India.
