India topped the list of skilled visa immigrants in Australia
For those coming to Australia on the skilled visa, India with 2,34,395 individuals (19 per cent) bagged the top rank, followed by England and China at 160,558 (13 per cent) and 146,842 (12 per cent) people, respectively. According to a data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), 1,54,012 Indians have acquired Australian citizenship. Under the family visa programme, China with 95,532 immigrants (14 per cent) ranked first, followed by UK at 60,108 (8.8 per cent) and India at 56,406 (8.3 per cent).
World class exhibition on four eminent personalities of Bengal to be hosted at Kolkata
A world-class permanent exhibition on four eminent personalities of Bengal — ♦Rabindranath Tagore, ♦Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, ♦Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and ♦Syama Prasad Mukherjee — will open at the National Library in Kolkata in the near future. This is announced by Shri Raghvendra Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Culture.
Rajya Sabha passed the State Banks Repeal and Amendment Bill 2017
Parliament has approved the bill to merge six subsidiary banks with the State Bank of India (SBI). The bill repeals the State Bank of India (Subsidiary Banks) Act, 1959, and State Bank of Hyderabad Act, 1956 besides amending the State Bank of India (SBI) Act, 1955. The State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Patiala and State Bank of Travancore were constituted under the State Bank of India (Subsidiary Banks) Act, 1959. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on July 21, 2017, and has been passed by the lower house (Lok Sabha).
Madhusudan Padhi appointed as the principal secretary to Odisha Governor
Odisha govenrment appointed senior IAS officer Madhusudan Padhi as the principal secretary to Governor Dr Ganeshi Lal. Padhi replaced CJ Venugopal as the principal secretary to the Governor. Venugopal has been appointed as the principal secretary, Electronics and IT department. Commissioner, Commercial Tax, Saswat Mishra, has been given the additional charge of transport commissioner, the post held by Padhi.
Ministry of Human Resource Development announced ‘Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat’ scheme
The initiative has been launched under ‘Samagra Shiksha’. Under this initiative, government will give an annual library grant to schools to promote reading culture. The grant will be given to Primary to Senior Secondary levels and will vary between Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 20,000.
Union Government to launch Student Police Cadet Programme
The Student Police Cadet (SPC) Programme will be launched nationally on July 21, 2018, by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of the Union Human Resources Minister Prakash Javadekar and the Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal. The programme will not have any prescribed textbook and nor will it include an exam. The topics covered under this part include values and ethics, respect for elders, empathy and sympathy, tolerance, patience, attitude, team spirit and discipline. The Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) with the support of NCERT prepared a handbook for imparting instructions. The programme would have a greater emphasis on field demonstrations and hands-on learning of the functioning of the police through visits to women police stations, child protection homes including NGOs, traffic police and fire brigade stations.

Alisson Becker of Brazil became the World’s most expensive goalkeeper while transferring clubs from Italy’s Roma to England’s Liverpool for a world record £56 million. The 25-year-old Brazilian has beaten Ederson Moraes (£34.7 million, Benfica to Manchester City).
Iran to jointly produce defense equipment with Pakistan
Major General Mohammad Baqeri, chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, made the remarks following a meeting with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain in Islamabad. Iran and Pakistan are working to jointly make defense products and present them as a joint achievement of the Muslim nations.
Facebook to Launch Satellite Athena in 2019
Facebook is working on a new satellite project, named Athena, that will provide broadband internet connections to rural and underserved areas. The company aims to launch a satellite in early 2019. In 2016, Facebook’s internet satellite for Africa was lost when SpaceX’s rocket exploded.
MiG 21 fighter Jet crashed in Himachal Pradesh
Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-21 fighter jet which was on a routine sortie, crashed in Patta Jattian village in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district after taking off from Pathankot air base. Squadron Leader Meet Kumar, who was flying the MiG-21 aircraft died in the accident. The MiG-21 jets were inducted into IAF in1963 and many of these planes were lost in crashes.
Former Chhattisgarh Finance Minister Ramchandra Singhdeo Passed away

International Army Games 2018 will be conducted from July 28 to August 11
The Army games are organised annually by Russia and this year 28 competitions will be held in seven countries including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia. This year the Games will bring together 181 teams from 32 countries. Military servicemen from Algeria, Vietnam, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sudan and the Philippines will demonstrate their skill for the first time. The Indian Army will be participating in two team competitions – the Tank Biathlon and Elbrus Ring – being held in Russia. The army will also be participating as observers in two events in Russia and three events in China. The events in China would be the ‘Suvorov’, ‘Seaborne assault’- an amphibious operation, and ‘Safe Route’.
Reserve Bank of India considers Cryptocurrency dealings as illegal transactions
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said to the Supreme Court (SC) that dealings in cryptocurrency like Bitcoins would encourage illegal transactions. RBI has already issued a circular prohibiting the use of these virtual currencies. Earlier RBI has instructed banks and other financial institutions to freeze the bank accounts of those individuals and companies dealing in the illegal trade of virtual currencies. A committee has been set up by the Centre to deal with the issues relating to cryptocurrencies and the matters required a final and early decision from the apex court. Cryptocurrency Cryptocurrencies are “a stateless digital currency” in which encryption techniques are used for trading and these ‘currencies’ operate independently of a Central bank like the RBI, “rendering it immune from government interference”.

They also discussed about strengthening strategic bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest happened. State-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Co. awarded two contracts worth $1.6 billion to BGP Inc., a subsidiary of China National Petroleum Co., for a seismic survey in the Emirate.
Justice Menon is to be appointed as Chief Justice Delhi High Court
The Supreme Court (SC) collegium has recommended Chief Justice Rajendra Menon to take over as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Currently, he is the CJ of Patna HC. The acting Chief Justice of the Delhi HC is Justice Gita Mittal. She has been recommended for appointment as Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir HC.
Egypts mysterious sarcophagus, 2000 years old, was unveiled
A black granite sarcophagus was recently found at the bottom of a pit in Alexandria, Egypt. It dated back around 2,000 years. Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities unveiled the mystery inside the sarcophagus. The sarcophagus contained three skeletons floating in foul-smelling sewage. that had leaked into the vessel from the road above through a small crack in the sarcophagus. It is said the skeletons and the sarcophagus will be transferred to the Alexandria National Museum, where experts will try to determine the cause of death and the approximate age of the skeletons.
A special Division Bench of Justices to hear the theft of ancient idols
The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, Indira Banerjee, has constituted a special Division Bench of Justices R. Mahadevan and P.D. Audikesavalu to hear cases related to the theft of ancient idols. The Bench will begin its process with a case related to the alleged theft of artefacts from the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam, Tiruchi.
