Senior NCP leader D P Tripathi passes away after prolonged illness

Senior Nationalist Congress Party leader and former MP, D P Tripathi today passed away in Delhi after a prolonged illness. He was 67. Born in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh Tripathi was active in students’ movement during his college days.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu condoled his death. Mr Naidu in his message said, he is deeply anguished to learn about the demise of senior Parliamentarian.


353rd birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh being celebrated today

The birth anniversary of the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh ji is being celebrated today. Born in 1666, Guru Gobind Singh is considered to be one of the most celebrated of all Sikh gurus.

President Ramnath Kovind and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have greeted fellow countrymen on the occasion. In a tweet, the President said, Guru Gobind Singh ji devoted his life to serving the people and upholding the values of truth, justice and compassion. His life and teachings continue to inspire us.


India first time ranks among top ten in Climate Change Performance Index

India for the first time ranks among the top ten in the Climate Change Performance Index, CCPI, which goes further to prove that all efforts and activities being currently undertaken by the government are setting a tone of vast improvements. Government aims to increase the share of non-fossil fuels to 175 GigaWatt by 2022 and further take it to 450 GW. EC launches Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System

The Election Commission has launched a Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System to enable applicants to track the status of the applications.

The Commission had amended the guidelines for registration last month.

The new norms have come into force from yesterday. Under it, applicants, applying for the party registration from 1st of this month will be able to track the progress of applications and will get the status through SMS and e-mail.


Nepal’s Prez launches ‘Visit Nepal Year 2020’ campaign to promote tourism

President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari launched much-awaited Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign amidst a spectacular ceremony held at historic Dasaratha Rangashala in Kathmandu on Wednesday evening. Chief Justice, National Assembly Chairman, former Prime Ministers and political party leaders from Nepal and dignitaries from various countries including India’s Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism and Culture, Prahlad Singh Patel also graced the occasion.

The ambitious campaign is aimed to promote tourism in Nepal and attract 2 million tourists during the year 2020. In his address Nepal’s Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai said the government has a goal of making tourism one of the key pillars of Nepali economy. He said Visit Nepal Year 2020 will create a new image of Nepal in the hearts and minds of the world community.


5th IHAI National Ice Hockey Championship-2020 begins in Leh

The 5th Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) National Ice Hockey Championship -2020 has begun in Leh today. In the inaugural match in Under-20 Boys category between Chandigarh and Haryana, the contest ended in a draw with 4 goals each.


MS Dhoni picked captain of ESPNCricinfo’s ODI and T20 teams of past decade

Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was today picked as captain of ESPN Cricinfo’s ODI and Twenty20 teams of the decade, while Virat Kohli was named the leader in Tests.

The criteria, set by the 23-member panel, for selection was a minimum of 50 Tests or six active years in the traditional format while it was 75 ODIs and 100 T20s for the limited-overs teams.


Third Khelo India youth games to be held in Guwahati in Jan 2020

The third Khelo India youth games will be held in Guwahati between 10th and 22nd of next month. Six thousand five hundred athletes from 37 teams will take part in the event. Chief Executive Officer of the Games Avinash Joshi told All India Radio that the upcoming event is going to be the biggest multidisciplinary games ever held in the country. He said Cycling and lawn ball have been introduced as new disciplines in the games.


Bengaluru’s University of Agricultural Sciences to host Indian Science Congress from tomorrow

The University of Agricultural Sciences in Bengaluru is all set to host the 107th Indian Science Congress from tomorrow till 7th of this month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tomorrow inaugurate the conference to be attended by over 15,000 delegates including Nobel laureates, scientists, academicians, students, farmers among others.

The General President of the Indian Science Congress Association, Prof. K S Rangappa has informed that 1500 scientific papers and 5700 posters will be laid in 14 scientific disciplines. There are 26 plenary sessions lined up for the science buffs.


National Green Corps scheme revived in J&K

The National Green Corps scheme, which was closed for over a decade, has been revived for Jammu and Kashmir. Due to the persistent efforts of J&K Pollution Control Board, PCB, the Environment Education, Awareness and Training scheme of Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for National Green Corps (Eco-Clubs) has been revived.

J&K PCB put efforts for the revival of the scheme in the State Nodal Agency (SNA) meet organized by MoEFCC at Kevadia in Gujarat. Accordingly, the Environment and Forests Ministry has approved the release of Grant-in-Aid of 2.60 crore rupees to J&K PCB.

Odisha’s 5T initiatives launched an online platform to digitalize the publication of Odisha Gazette and move forward as a paperless mode of publication. The electronic signature, e-sign integration is carried out for better and secure authentication of the indenting departments. The possibility of manipulation in the contents of the Gazette. Such e-Publication will cover under section-8 of the Information Technology Act 2000 enables it to acquire legal entity. This electronic mode will provide hassle-free access to all indenting, publishing, user departments, and the general public.
