Numma Oonu is a scheme in Kerala that will feed the needy people in the state. Under the scheme, selected locations (district) will be chosen where the authority will distribute free food packets to the poor and needy people. It will be a ‘zero-hunger’ initiative taken by the state government of Kerala.
The scheme was launched in the year 2018, on 26th January. IT is supervised and initiated by the District Collector Mr. K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla. There will be free meal shops in railway junction to serve the needy under the scheme.
Aim
The scheme aims to provide zero-hunger state. As of now, Ernakulam, Kochi, Perumbavoor and so on places will have this scheme implemented. With this scheme, needy people will get proper food.
Locations
There will be free-meal shops or centres in Ernakulam South railway Junction. People, living around the place can visit the centres to collect their portion of free meal food coupons.
Coupons
Under this scheme, beneficiaries will receive food coupons from the authority. These coupons have to be exchanged to get the free meal packets from the centres.
Hotels
There are 8 Hotels in Kerala State that are registered under this scheme. In these hotels, the needy people or the beneficiaries can redeem their food coupon. They can produce the coupons to the hotels to get their free meals.
Beneficiaries
The scheme is designed for the people who are needy and living below the poverty line. The scheme will facilitate only those who are unable to earn enough money to have a proper meal a day.
Coupon distribution centres
There will be several centres in which the food coupons will be distributed. Each centre is allowed to distribute 30 coupons at the maximum.
Hotels like Arya Bhavan, Mughal, Ayodhya, Galaxy, Liba and such are registered under the scheme. Along with these 5 hotels, Alkapuri, Alfalfa and Aryas Hotel will also be included in this scheme. The beneficiaries can produce their free meal food coupons to any of the mentioned hotel to enjoy their free meal for a day.
