Thailand and Malaysia weightlifters barred from competing in Tokyo Olympics for doping violations
Independent Member Federation Sanctions Panel (IMFSP) of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has imposed disciplinary sanctions on Thailand and Malaysia and banned both the countries to from participating in weightlifting events at the Tokyo Olympics.
The IMFPS also suspended the Thai Amateur Weightlifting Association (TAWA) for three years, while the Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) has been given a one-year ban.
IAS, IPS officers’ associations form ‘Caruna’, an initiative to fight Coronavirus
Associations representing officers of Central Civil Services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), have formed an initiative called ‘Caruna’ to support and supplement the government’s efforts in fighting coronavirus, an official said yesterday.
The acronym ‘Caruna’ stands for Civil Services Associations Reach to Support in Natural Disasters and represents a collaborative platform, on which civil servants, industry leaders, NGO professionals and IT professionals among others have come together to contribute their time and abilities.
India seeks $6 billion loans from AIIB, ADB to combat COVID-19
India is seeking loans worth $6 billion from multilateral institutions including the Asian Development Bank to combat COVID-19, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
The central government is in talks with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and ADB to secure these loans to further the testing and infrastructure facilities in the country.
India has already secured $1 billion funding from the World Bank to better its health sector for fighting against the coronavirus pandemic according to previous reports.
Centre to give Rs 11,092 crore to states
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday approved release of Rs 11,092 crore to all states under the State Disaster Risk Management Fund (SDRMF) for setting up quarantine facilities and arranging other facilities for checking the spread of coronavirus.
The home minister has approved the release of Rs 11,092 crore under SDRMF to all states. The Centre has released in advance its share of the first installment of SDRMF for 2020-21 amounting to Rs 11,092 crore with a view to augment funds available with the state governments.
IIM-B & ICICI Securities teams up to launch program for fintech startups
As a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, ICICI Securities (I-Sec) has partnered with IIM Bangalore’s startup hub N S Raghavan Centre of Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL) to launch program for fintech startups having the duration of 15 months. The startups working in the fields of insurance, personal finance, banking, trading, wealth advisory, payments, lending and taxation can avail the benefits of the program.

The Action Covid Team (ACT) Grants, a Rs 100 crore collective grant fund from leading VC funds such as Sequoia, Light speed, Nexus, Matrix partners and start-up industry leaders such as Nandan Nilekani, Ritesh Agarwal, Vijay Shekar Sharma, Kunal Shah, Kiran Shaw, among others, has been specifically earmarked for projects directly related to combating covid-19 with the ability to have an immediate impact. Start-up ideas that are quickly actionable and scalable in the areas of prevention of spread of COVID-19, scaling of testing for the virus, disease management at homes, support to healthcare workers and critically-ill patients are being considered for funding under the grant
Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J transport aircraft o delivered 6.2 tonne of essential medicines and hospital consumables to Maldives under Operation Sanjeevani.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) said that it mobilised its C-130J aircraft on Thursday to airlift 6.2 tonnes of essential medical supplies for Male in the Maldives as this consignment could not be transported through usual channels due to the 21-day lockdown imposed in India for curbing the coronavirus pandemic
“Operation Sanjeevani was successfully conducted with meticulous planning, coordination and execution of MEA (Ministry of External Affair), MoD (Ministry of Defence), HQ IDS (Headquarters – Integrated Defence Staff), MOH&FW (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) and other government agencies.
