census, a term that you may have heard before may be while giving your details to a government official who comes to your house. It does not happen every year so those of you who were born after 2011 may not know the existence of this word.

India saw its last census seven years ago in 2011 and it will again be conducted in 2021 as it happens in an interval of 10 years.

Every country needs basic information on its residents for the purposes of planning, development, and improvement of the residents’ quality of life.

  • Census is the basis for reviewing the country’s progress in the past decade, monitoring the ongoing schemes of the government and plan for the future
  • Census provides detailed and authentic information on demography, economic activity, literacy and education, housing and household amenities, urbanisation, fertility and mortality, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, language, religion, migration, disability and many other socio-cultural and demographic data.
